South College is conducting a search for the position of Department Chairperson for the General Education Department at the Knoxville campus. The person hired will be responsible for the daily operation, organization, administration, general effectiveness, and supervision of all Instructors/Professors within the General Education Department. This full-time position includes classroom instruction. The candidate must have strong leadership skills and a passion for overseeing a quality educational program.
Primary Responsibilities:
Faculty Supervision & Teaching:
- Assists with interviews and selection of general education faculty with appropriate credentials who will contribute to the program and student outcomes.
- Orients and trains full-time, part-time, and adjunct faculty members.
- Evaluates faculty performance per departmental guidelines.
- Maintains a minimum of 12 hours per week of classroom hours related to instruction.
- Assists with the development of a quarterly general education schedule.
- Facilitates the development and collection of student learning outcomes data.
- Participates in the evaluation and revision of the curriculum following the college’s policies and procedures.
- Maintains and upholds the policies and procedures of the program and college.
- Participates in professional development, service, and scholarship.
- Represents the Knoxville campus in cross-campus general education leadership initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Teaching experience in post-secondary educational setting.
- Evidence of an earned master’s degree in one of the following disciplines: English, Math, Communications, Computer Literacy, or Psychology.
- A doctoral degree is preferred.
