Why We Have This Role

State-of-the-art ML-driven natural language processing (NLP) tools rely on high-quality language data. The Language Engineering team delivers language data annotation, model output evaluation, and language consulting to support AI/ML research and development across Qualtrics.

 

How You’ll Find Success

As a Language Data Specialist, you’re proficient in designing and executing workflows for data annotation and model output evaluation. You’re skilled at collaborating across teams. You’re confident leading a team of annotators to complete projects accurately and efficiently. You know how to apply the right strategies for ensuring and measuring annotation quality. You’re comfortable multitasking across multiple projects in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment. You have expertise in one or more languages in addition to English, and you can help our partners understand the special challenges and considerations for your language. 

 

How You’ll Grow

On the LE team, you’ll gain experience with a wide variety of different projects, and you’ll learn to design, manage, and deliver projects end-to-end. You’ll have the opportunity to work with new AI/ML technologies and contribute to products our customers will love. 

 

Things You’ll Do

  • Work with applied scientists and other partners to define project requirements and design tasks in language data annotation, model output evaluation, and related areas
  • Coordinate with teammates to set up and manage tasks in annotation tools
  • Create and maintain project guidelines
  • Onboard and supervise data annotators across multiple languages
  • Measure, monitor, troubleshoot, and improve annotation quality
  • Perform annotation, evaluation, and review tasks and consult on special issues for your language(s)
  • Help define team-wide best practices for annotation, annotation QA, and project management

 

What We’re Looking For On Your Resume

  • 1-3 years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or above in linguistics, computer science, data science, or another related field
  • Fluent spoken and written English
  • Native or near-native fluency in at least one language besides English (Strong preference for German or Spanish; also open to Dutch, French, Italian, Korean, Portuguese)
  • Experience working in data annotation or closely related areas 
  • Strong understanding of data annotation processes and metrics
  • Familiarity with Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing
  • Excellent skills in organization, project management, and stakeholder communication
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
  • Team player with exceptional interpersonal skills and a solution-oriented attitude
  • Hard-working self-starter capable of concurrently running multiple projects in a dynamic environment
  • Detail-orientation with an ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Basic scripting (e.g. Python) and data analysis skills (e.g. SQL)

The Data Intelligence Center of Excellence (DICE) organization provides AI/ML research and development services for all product lines. This team builds core machine learning infrastructure and services. Language Engineering (LE) delivers the language data needed to power this research.
