Job Summary:

Dr. Vikas Gupta will be coming in the new clinical fellow replacing Dr. Maren E. Shipe who will be graduating from the Pediatric Surgery Training Program July 31st, 2024.

  • Program Overview:

    • The Pediatric Surgery Residency Training Program at Vanderbilt covers general and specialized surgical services for children from infancy through adolescence. It addresses a wide array of congenital and acquired conditions.
    • The program aims to provide comprehensive training in pediatric surgery, including preoperative, operative, and postoperative care for pediatric patients.
  • Clinical Responsibilities:

    • As a clinical fellow in this program, your responsibilities include:
      • Preoperative Care: Evaluating patients before surgery, assessing surgical indications, and planning interventions.
      • Operative Care: Participating in surgical procedures for pediatric patients.
      • Postoperative Care: Managing patients during their recovery phase.
      • Administrative Duties: Overseeing residents in general surgery and pediatrics, as well as medical students on the service.
  • Educational Support:

    • The program provides educational support for trainees, including:
      • Applicant Selection: Assisting in interview and selection processes.
      • Orientation: Facilitating new resident orientation.
      • Skills Labs: Organizing frequent skills labs.
      • Conference Management: Coordinating Grand Rounds, Resident Teaching conferences, and Bonus conferences.
      • Morbidity and Mortality Improvement (M&MI) Reports: Preparing reports related to patient outcomes.
