Overview
The Motor Vehicle Direct Client Service Specialist will interact with a diverse population to process various motor vehicle related transactions in a high traffic, fast paced, office while maintaining excellent customer service. Work involves reviewing, verifying, and processing applications from customers for vehicle registrations or licensing, titles, tax payments, driver licenses/permits, non-driver identification cards, handicapped parking placards, plates, etc. The position will perform various types of monetary transactions while maintaining accuracy, control, and minimal errors. Additionally, the incumbent will perform daily tasks using modern office practices and equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, scanners, point of sale systems, etc., and associated software. Associated skills with this technology such as typing, using search engines, emailing, troubleshooting, etc. is required. This is a full-time position and work will take place within the Springfield DMV office.

In accordance with Title 23, Section 102(d), an applicant must agree to be finger-printed and pass a background investigation to be eligible for this position. The background investigation may include criminal, financial and traffic records checks. Class Definition
Direct public contact completing technical and administrative work at any of the branch offices, including the Montpelier Office, for the Department of Motor Vehicles. Work involves review, verification, coding and processing of applications for all types of motor vehicle registrations, driver licenses, and reinstatements. Duties include providing complete and accurate information to the public in person, by telephone and by written communication. This class is responsible for constant public contact, handling and completing all types of applications, accountability for all fees and audits, completing weekly statistics, completing camera supply inventory and, travelling to other offices for staff coverage. Independence of action is expected to be used within the legal guidelines established. Duties are performed under the supervision of a Unit Supervisor. The agency anticipates level increases as the incumbent becomes proficient in duties described and subsequently becomes successful in conducting higher level duties proficiently on a referenced matrix for a 4-month period of time.
Environmental Factors
Incumbents must be able to work quickly and accurately under pressure before the public eye and from telephone inquiries. Due to significant public contact exposure to contagious illnesses is a daily risk. Incumbents must be able to multi-task and prioritize unpredictable workloads. Employees must be able to deal with confused, frustrated, and highly upset customers and handle large sums of money. Within the office setting, normal workplace conditions prevail. Occasional trips outdoors when verifying vehicle identification numbers. Incumbents must be able to perform several job duties within several different units possibly in the same day. The incumbent must be able to travel to other offices with minimal notice to assist when staffing shortages occur and various scheduled hours. Private means of transportation may be required. Overtime work may be required.
Minimum Qualifications
Two (2) or more years of work experience in a customer or client service role such as retail, hospitality or government that included significant public contact and regular use of computer programs.
OR
Four (4) or more months of work experience in the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles in licensing or registration meeting proficiency standards set by the Department.
