The Activities and Recreation Center’s Intramural Staff play a vital role in the day-to-day operations of the ARC Intramural Activities Program. They are front line in making intramural programs fair, fun, and safe. Individuals participate in officiating a variety of sports, leading captain's meetings, program promotions, and peer-to-peer evaluations. The main duty for Intramural Staff is to enforce all competitive sports policies, and sport specific rules. Officials will use their sport knowledge/rule understanding to enforce rules, encourage fair play and good sportspersonship, and ensure the safety of all participants.
Being an Intramural Student Staff member is a time commitment of a full academic year with an average of 8-15 hours per week. That time is used to assist in the planning and administration of the Intramural Activities Program, supervise intramural events, officiate games, and have regularly scheduled staff meetings. Those selected for this position will have extensive training, so they will be prepared to complete their duties and responsibilities successfully.
No officiating experience is needed, however; sport involvement/experience, or an interest in recreation is preferred.
Duties & Responsibilities
Support Intramural Leagues and Events (70% of Job Duties)
- Required to attend Fall training, retreat, and additional trainings sessions
- Required to attend regularly scheduled team meetings, and one-on-one check-in with the Program Manager.
- Officiate leagues, tournaments, & events – must be available on Sunday evenings from 4-8pm.
- Assist in hosting and/or organizing virtual events
- Assist in needs assessments and data collections (e.g., Focus groups, surveys)
- Explicit knowledge and enforcement of Intramural policies and sport rules
- This position will require physical movement throughout the entire shift. Physical movement will include, but is not limited to, running and or jogging at a pace consistent with an athletic event, walking and standing for long periods of time, and lifting sports equipment and gear.
- This position requires being outside for extended periods of time.

Intramural Specialty Groups/ Task (~10% of Job Duties)
- Option to serve as a member of our Intramural Specialty group to assist in student administration within the program. These groups include Programming and Outreach.
Additional Task (~20% of Job Duties)
- Serve as a resource for participants
- Promote leagues and events to students
- Distribution of promotional or marketing materials
- Maintain communication between ARC Intramurals and campus community
- Assist in completing daily reports, scoresheets, equipment checkout, and other required paperwork
- Coordinate with Program Manager of Intramurals and Outdoor Facilities to assess the desires and needs of the campus community
