OPPORTUNITY:The Bus Monitor is responsible for helping ensure the safety, well-being, and orderly conduct of students while they are being transported to and from school and school-related activities. The Bus Monitor assists the bus driver by supervising student behavior, supporting students during boarding and exiting, and helping maintain a safe, positive, and respectful transportation environment for all students in grades TK–8. The bus monitor may also support arrival and dismissal duties. This position will work with students from Animo Extera Elementary School as well as Animo Ellen Ochoa Middle School.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Supervise students on the school bus to promote safe and appropriate behavior.
● Assist students during boarding and exiting procedures, ensuring student safety at all times.
● Help maintain order and enforce school and transportation rules while on the bus.
● Monitor student conduct and address minor behavioral concerns in accordance with school policies and procedures.
● Report disciplinary issues, safety concerns, accidents, injuries, or incidents to the bus driver and appropriate school personnel.
● Communicate with parents and guardians regarding bus pick up and drop off, at times making phone calls
● Wait with students until the final student is released to their guardian
● Assist younger students and students with special needs as required.
● Ensure students remain seated and follow safety procedures during transportation.
● Support emergency evacuation procedures and participate in required safety drills.
● Communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, bus drivers, and school staff.
● Maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
● Attend required training, meetings, and professional development sessions as assigned.
● Assist in creating a welcoming and positive environment for all students.
● Resolve routine communication problems or incident reports with families, students, and school officials
● Demonstrate team work with bus driver daily
● Support with arrival and dismissal
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
● Ability to board and exit a school bus multiple times during a shift.
● Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and assist students as needed.
● Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.
● Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds when necessary.
● Ability to work in varying weather conditions during student loading and unloading.
QUALIFICATIONS:
> Possess a high school diploma (or equivalent) AND one of the following:
*Completion of at least two years of college (48 semester units or 90 quarter units), OR
*Attainment of an AA (or higher) degree
CPR and First Aid certification required
● Experience working with children in a school, childcare, recreational, or youth-serving environment preferred.
● Ability to effectively supervise and manage student behavior.
● You are professional, warm, and collaborative with students, families, and colleagues
● Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
● Ability to work collaboratively with transportation and school staff.
● Ability to pass all required background checks and clearances.

> On-Site Presence: This role requires regular, in-person attendance to meet the needs of students, staff, and the school environment. Remote work/telecommuting is generally not an option.
