Kleinfelder is seeking a Roadway Design Engineer with experience in the design of urban roadway projects to join as part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team in our Las Vegas office.  This position has flexibility to be onsite or hybrid.  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on transportation projects and will work closely with our civil groups and markets. This is a great opportunity for a talented individual who is inspired to promote and support the growth of our transportation and civil sectors for both our public and private clients, including municipalities throughout Nevada and surrounding region.

 

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 6 years' experience in roadway engineering and a strong desire for learning and sharing knowledge. They will work with a team of civil engineers with varied engineering backgrounds to collaborate and deliver a wide range of projects for high-priority clients in Nevada and surrounding region.

 

Responsibilities in this role will include: 

  • Working on Roadway design projects that incorporate multimodal facilities, traffic calming treatments, urban streets roadway designs and modifications, accessibility improvements, ADA, drainage assessments and designs, public and private utility coordination, and roadway infrastructure elements.
  • Working on cutting-edge, multi-disciplinary roadway design projects for high-profile state agencies and large municipalities in the Nevada area while supporting and learning from Project Managers while training and mentoring staff engineers.
  • Working on projects technically from the conceptual and preliminary engineering design phase to final design and for some contracts, through construction phase services
  • Coordinating with architects, bridge, environmental, geotechnical, survey, and traffic professionals, to complete multi-disciplinary project deliverables
  • Preparing detailed civil design plans, specifications, cost estimates, and bid packages
  • Working with Project Managers to ensure that production of specifications, reports and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost and quality requirements
  • Opportunity to build long-term client relationships and support business development initiatives. 

 

To be successful in this role you will need: 

  • Experience with the various aspects of roadway design, utilities and utility coordination, grading, development of construction documents, and construction support services.
  • Experience with developing roadway designs in accordance with local agency design guidelines and standards
  • Technical experience with highway design software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D,) with capability to produce and to responsibly delegate and oversee quality engineering designs and plans.  Stormwater design would be (utilizing HydroCAD, HEC-1, WSPG, HEC-RAS, FlowMaster, or other modelling software) would be a plus. 
  • Self-motivation with good communication and organizational skills with an eagerness to take on increasing challenges and a strong passion for the work.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and to maintain positive relationships with team members and clients.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Civil Engineering
  • 6–10+ years of experience in roadway design and preparation of construction contract documents
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Strong understanding of local agency design guidelines, standards, and permitting processes
  • Proficiency with relevant civil engineering design software (e.g., roadway design, CAD, modeling tools)
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain client relationships
  • Ability to adapt and thrive in a fast‑paced, dynamic work environment
  • A strong commitment to meeting client objectives, goals, and project challenges
