Role Overview:
The State and Regulatory Insurance Filer is responsible for preparing, submitting, and monitoring insurance-related filings with state regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with applicable laws and guidelines. This role requires a deep understanding of state-specific regulations, insurance forms, and filing processes. The ideal candidate will have experience in insurance regulatory compliance, strong attention to detail, and effective communication skills.
What You’ll Do:
1. Filing Preparation and Submission:
- Prepare and submit insurance product filings (rates, forms, rules) to state regulatory agencies using SERFF (System for Electronic Rate and Form Filing) or equivalent systems.
- Ensure all documentation adheres to state-specific filing requirements and guidelines
2. Regulatory Compliance:
- Monitor and interpret state regulations, bulletins, and changes to ensure filings meet current compliance standards.
- Collaborate with legal, product development, and compliance teams to align filing materials with regulatory requirements.
3. Correspondence with Regulators:
- Act as the primary point of contact with state departments of insurance regarding filing questions, objections, or required amendments.
- Resolve inquiries and objections efficiently while maintaining positive relationships with regulatory authorities.
4. Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of filing activities, statuses, approvals, and rejections.
- Generate reports to track filing timelines and outcomes to support compliance and business planning efforts.
5. Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Work closely with underwriters, actuaries, legal advisors, and product managers to ensure alignment between filings and business goals.
- Provide guidance to internal stakeholders on regulatory filing requirements and timelines.
What you'll bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, insurance, legal studies, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in insurance regulatory compliance, filings, group benefits industry (Disability, Voluntary Benefits, PFML, etc.)
Proficiency in SERFF or similar systems.- Familiarity with state-specific insurance regulations and product development.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Problem-solving mindset and ability to work under strict deadlines.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with multi-state filings or specialty insurance products.
- Working Conditions
- Primarily office-based, with remote or hybrid potential depending on base location.
- May require occasional travel for industry events or regulator meetings.
