Spay/Neuter Veterinarian (On-Call) - CA Central Valley $1300/shift

The San Francisco SPCA is working hard to make change and we need your help! 

As many know, a growing shortage of veterinarians is impacting hundreds of thousands of California’s shelter and companion animals. We’re seeing delays in medical treatment, overcrowding in the shelters, and more outbreaks of disease. Sometimes, shelters are left with no other option than to euthanize treatable, adoptable pets, while some pet guardians are forced to surrender their animals because they cannot get the care they need. 

The San Francisco SPCA is seeking a qualified, experienced veterinarian who wants to contribute to our goals by helping to fill open shifts with our Central Valley shelter partners in the Visalia, Hanford, Fresno and Stockton areas. Interested professionals with proven surgical skills, a commitment to teamwork, a positive attitude for problem solving and communication, and the desire to learn and grow should apply. Previous experience in a High Quality High Volume Spay Neuter (HQHVSN) setting is required. 

Shifts are scheduled based upon your availability.

Essential Duties:

• Assess animals pre- and post-operatively 
• Perform 25 – 40 HQHVSN procedures per day for client-owned & shelter animals, as well as community cats.
• Diagnose and treat post-surgical medical complications of outpatient animals
• Provide select services to shelter animals including mass removals, wound management and other minor procedures
• Triage and refer cases that do not fall within the clinic’s parameters of care as appropriate.
• Evaluate shelter animals and community cats and perform humane euthanasia of suffering or unhealthy animals as needed. 
• Provide compassionate and judgment free veterinary care
• Work effectively with individuals and colleagues from diverse communities and cultures.
• Facilitate good working relationships through professional demeanor, teamwork and collaboration.

Salary and Benefits
Compensation is $1,300 per 8-10-hour HQHVSN clinic shift worked.  (Clinic days can vary 8-10 hours)

Eligible for the following benefits: You will be covered by the Society’s Worker’s Compensation and Professional Liability insurance; 401k with matching funds, discounts on veterinary medical care, sick time accrual that meets San Francisco Healthy SF guidelines; inclusion in all Society hospital meetings and continuing education events.  In addition, the SF SPCA will contribute payroll taxes and withhold appropriate local, state, federal and social security taxes on your behalf and issue a W-2 at the end of the year (rather than a 1099).

Requirements

• Graduated from an accredited veterinary medical college – DVM or equivalent
• Licensed to practice in the State of California
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in a HQHVSN setting preferred but not required
