Our Organization and Mission: The Office represents the State of Florida in state and federal civil and criminal courts, from trial courts to the Supreme Court of the United States.
Pay: $77,219.22 Annually
Position Summary: This position is in the Civil Legal Services – Child Support Division in the Tampa Bureau. Attorneys must have knowledge of methods, techniques, and skills necessary for the performance of the job and demonstrate the ability to effectively and efficiently execute all assigned duties and tasks. Quality of work is accurate and thoroughly completed within established time frames and amount of work completed meets or exceeds expectations. Must be able to perform the duties of the position through the competent use of work methodologies, computer applications and software, office equipment, etc.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association and membership of the Florida Bar. Applicants who are law school graduates but not current members of the Florida Bar and third year law students can be considered; however, proof of the Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor and approval to sit for the Florida bar exam must be provided prior to the date of employment. Any employment offer would be contingent upon admission to the bar within 12 months of the date of employment.
The Work You Will Do: This position’s duties include but not limited to the following:
Document Review
- Review and sign documents generated by staff that are to be filed with the court, submitted to counsel, and/or the judiciary to ensure legal sufficiency or appropriateness before signing.
- Prepare complex legal documents.
- Reviews and drafts discovery requests and responses.
- Review and process legal correspondence.
Court
- Attends trial litigation, mediations, and any other court related appearances in circuit court and DOAH on behalf of the Department of Revenue Child Support Enforcement Program including thorough preparation of cases and timely submission of court orders.
- Advises the Attorney Supervisor of any cases potentially requiring appellate action and, when appropriate, filing the notice of appeal at the trial level and completing the request for appellate authorization. Keeps the Attorney Supervisor updated on complex cases, as needed.
Case Management
- Provides updates and information on case status to the supervisor, client, and/or partners as requested. Provides assistance researching specific case related inquiries. Participates in meetings, workshops and conferences as required.
- Maintain case files and ensure files have all proper documentation. Update activity and status in all necessary databases to meet deadlines and contractual performance standards.
- Timely updates billable hours in time tracking database.
Legal Research
- Conducts legal research and interprets statutes, regulations, rules and operating procedures, providing legal advice/information to the client or Attorney Supervisor as requested.
