The Chief Internal Auditor is responsible for developing and leading the overall internal audit function for the organization and for planning and conducting compliance, financial and operational audits to evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls and organizational risk. The position is responsible for ensuring Internal Audit is closely aligned with industry best practices in executing the duties across the company’s business and financial operations. Scope of activities include providing value-added analysis on internal controls, business operations, and risk management, as well as ensuring audit work is performed with a high-level of ethics and quality requisite of benchmark of other global internal audit functions.
This position reports functionally to the Audit and Compliance Committee of the Nexteer Automotive Group Limited Board of Directors and administratively to the Chief Financial Officer. The position is located at Nexteer’s Corporate Headquarters in Auburn Hills, MI, but should expect frequent travel to the Global Technical Center in Saginaw, MI as well as some global travel throughout the year.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide leadership and direction to the Internal Audit function and manage all internal audit activities
- Set the strategy for Internal Audit in alignment with Nexteer’s mission, vision and strategic priorities
- Provide leadership in the development of and effective implementation of the annual risk assessment and audit plan
- Oversee the evaluation and testing of financial, operational and compliance practices, and the related controls, to ensure effective design and operation
- Coordinate with other risk management functions within the organization as well as with Nexteer’s external auditor
- Develop and issue internal audit reports highlighting process and control findings, including recommendations to improve
- Respond to and investigate allegations of financial fraud, waste and abuse, including those received through the Nexteer Ethics Line
- Communicate regularly with the Audit and Compliance Committee and other stakeholders to ensure concerns are addressed and expectations met
- Work with the Controllership to aggregate deficiencies and determine areas where the Company should focus to enhance procedures
EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
- A minimum of 15 years of relevant accounting and audit experience, enhanced by several years of progressively responsible work in controls, reporting, auditing, internal controls over financial reporting or operational finance roles within a global company, especially China
- 10 + years of direct management responsibility
- A proven track record in a managerial/leadership role proven experience in building a function within an organization and developing strategies is preferred
- A full understanding and applied experience in the professional practice of internal auditing
- An ability to direct the performance of a fraud, waste and abuse investigation as well as draw and communicate conclusions regarding the allegation
EDUCATION AND SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required. Master’s degree is preferred.
- Solid ability to communicate complex issues effectively with peers, executive leadership, board of directors and other key stakeholders
OTHERS PREFERRED:
- Big 4 public accounting experience
- Professional certification preferred including CPA, CIA, CISA, or other risk management related certification(s)
