Process Engineer - (Life Sciences)

Wood is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Mid-Level Process Engineer to join our team in Rockville, MD, to support the EPCM (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management) delivery of a sustaining capital program for one of our Biopharmaceutical clients. In this role, you will play a critical part in supporting the ongoing operation and improvement of a biopharmaceutical facility. You will work closely with both internal and external stakeholders to identify and resolve process-related challenges and drive the successful implementation of facility enhancement projects.
*This position will be onsite at our client's facility in Rockville, MD
Responsibilities:
- Process Analysis and Troubleshooting:
- Collaborate with client-side engineers responsible for process equipment to understand and analyze issues within the existing biopharmaceutical facility.
- Identify root causes of process bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and equipment malfunctions.
- Develop and evaluate potential solutions to improve process performance, optimize resource utilization, and enhance overall facility efficiency.
- Project Development and Execution:
- Provide front-end engineering support for process-related projects, including developing conceptual designs, conducting feasibility studies, and preparing business cases for project justification.
- Work closely with both onsite & back of house Wood EPCM team to further develop project designs, ensuring adherence to industry best practices, regulatory requirements, and client specifications.
- Work with the assigned Wood Project Manager to oversee the implementation of projects from design through construction and commissioning, ensuring timely and budget-conscious execution.
- Technical Expertise:
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in biopharmaceutical process engineering, including technologies, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of process engineering standards and procedures within the company.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
- Client Communication and Collaboration:
- Effectively communicate technical information and project updates to clients, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and foster collaborative working relationships with all project team members.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- At least 5 years of progressive experience in biopharmaceutical process engineering, with a strong emphasis on upstream processing & downstream processing or facility design.
- Proven experience in working with cross-functional teams, including engineers, scientists, contractors, and clients.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and troubleshoot complex technical issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in relevant engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Plant Simulation, Aspen Plus, Kneat, DeltaV, IP21).
- Knowledge of relevant industry regulations (e.g., FDA, cGMP).
- Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
