Senior Product Counsel

About the Role

We're doing some incredible work in the Legal team and building the foundation for the hypergrowth that Tekion is undergoing. In this role, you will work on some of the most strategic initiatives of the company and will partner cross-functionally with our brilliant innovators across teams. This is a foundational position of a lean legal organization - you will have the opportunity to meaningfully shape both the team and the business.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner with our Product, Engineering, Design, Compliance, and other teams to provide practical and actionable advice as we launch new and exciting products. You will be the lead legal advisor to executives, product managers, engineers, and compliance professionals on product compliance and data privacy issues globally.
• Experience providing clear and actionable advice on consumer payments, privacy requirements (CCPA/CPRA, GDPR, PIPEDA), and/or consumer advertising.
• Stay abreast of changes to laws and policies relevant to product goals and objectives, including privacy and lending / banking law updates and regulatory changes.
• A strong mix of legal, technical, and business acumen that will allow you to understand and discuss complex technical issues and data flows.
• Proactively identify risks and communicate clearly with cross-functional partners across the company.
• Create and implement privacy policies and practices to ensure consistent implementation of legal guidance and alignment on risks.

Requirements

• At least 6+ years of experience advising product and engineering teams on developing SaaS products with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

• • Data privacy and information security governance (i.e., incident response management, investigation, and remediation, and data governance and data standards such as data mapping, retention, and deletion programs);
  • Deep regulatory knowledge of the financial services landscape; or
  • Lending and payments expertise or privacy law.  Will consider someone that has one of the areas. 

*Bonus points if you have experience working at or advising fintechs, payment companies, payment networks, or regulated financial institutions.

• An  understanding of privacy law, regulations, and industry trends—particularly U.S. and European privacy requirements for financial information and new state-by-state privacy laws. A privacy law certification is nice to have but not required.
• JD from a recognized U.S. law school and licensed to practice in at least one US jurisdiction (preferably California).
• Attention to detail, willingness to roll up their sleeves to get into the details and drive creative solutions but ability to think on the fly and drive efficient deal process and fast decision making.
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to create and sustain lasting relationships.
• Demonstrated ability to perform in nimble, rapidly changing, and growing environments.
