Job Description:
The WAE Registered Nurse 2 applies professional knowledge and employs specialized skills to facilitate efficient operations and to provide quality medical care to a diverse student population, focusing on preventative maintenance and restorative care and employing evidence-based practice. Functions as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in the Medical Clinics, consisting of physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses and medical assistants. Should have a deep appreciation for a collaborative care model, partnering with Mental Health Service and Wellness and Health Promotion, and a commitment to advancing the divisional priorities of quality, access and inclusion, mattering and belonging, and cultivating a working relationship with Our Lady of the Lake Health.
Job Responsibilities:
50% - Performs professional and technical nursing duties, including assessment of student's physical condition and behavior. Makes independent nursing decisions based on these findings and collaborates/communicates with medical providers. Performs a variety of clinical nursing skills within RN scope of practice. Performs nursing duties to enhance image of the SHC and delivers high quality care. Effectively utilizes EHR for billing, scheduling and compliance purposes.
30% - Performs triage and teletriage in accordance with established protocols. Functions as a collaborative team member assisting others when needed. Performs prior authorizations and referrals. Maintains student confidentiality at all times following HIPPA guidelines. Maintains cleanliness, stock and functionality of medical clinic.
10% - Provides education to students regarding preventive care, self care related to an illness/injury and health maintenance. Provides student education and coordinates community resources as needed.
5% - Participates in process improvement initiatives. Understands and maintains compliance with OSHA safety guidelines within the SHC. Participates in preparing for the Accreditation Process and participates in all LSU SHC community outreach events. Attends regular meetings and completes training requirements. Adheres to all University and departmental policies.
5% - Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a valid Louisiana license or temporary permit to practice professional nursing or a multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state plus one year of professional nursing experience.
SUBSTITUTIONS: A baccalaureate degree in nursing will substitute for the required experience.
A master's degree in nursing or public health will substitute for the required experience.
NOTE: Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.
Additional Requirements/Expectations:
This position may be required to report to campus in times of emergency and/or closure per PS-18.
