Health and Nutrition Coordinator- Head Start

About the role

Job Purpose or Objective(s): Responsible for informing, training, monitoring content areas of Health and Child Abuse and Neglect reporting within the centers. You will report to the Head Start Director.

Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm

Primary Tasks:

1.       You will maintain children’s individual health and nutrition records to ensure their health needs have been identified and followed-up on to ensure treatment has begun or is ongoing and completed.

2.      Create monthly program health and nutrition reports and participate in Child staffing Reviews.

3.      Interpret health and nutrition screenings and have a Medical Professional/Registered Dietician contact person for assistance for additional interpretation of reports and individual/center staff training.  Collaborate with multiple communities and Tribal Health / Nutrition resource agencies.

4.      Develop menus; provide information to staff and families and nutrition educational material to be implemented in the classroom.

5.      You will review outcomes, plan strategies and revise the programs Health and Nutrition Procedures/Content Area Plan and individual Health and Nutrition Policies/Plans, Parent and Center Staff Handbooks using the Self-Assessment, Community Assessment and any new changes in the program and Head Start Regulations.

6.      Help organize the Health Services Advisory Committee and work with the committee in the implementation and evaluation of the Health Content Area Plans.

7.      Track TB Questionnaires and required training for staff Consultants and volunteers.

8.      Perform other tasks as may be assigned.

 Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in health, education or related field, or 4 years directly related experience.

Strong interpersonal skills, ability to multi-task and manage time ability to work independently with a minimum follow-up

Knowledge of health & nutrition as related to children and families.

Knowledge of USDA Child Care Food Programs

Oral and written communicate skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and ability to use other programs.

At least one year experience in food purchasing and preparation.

One year experience in an Early Childhood setting
