Mechanical | Industrial Engineering Internship: Dynamic Links
ASMLAbout the role
Introduction
Are you a bachelor or master student in Mechanical, Industrial, or Aerospace Engineering, looking for an internship? Are you knowledgeable in mechanics and mechanical dynamics? Do you have some experience in static and dynamic calculations (FEM analysis)? Would you like to apply your theoretical knowledge in a real world setting and gain some practical experience? Then this internship might be interesting to you!
Background information
The EUV light source is essential to ASML's leading edge lithography systems. The department Machine Conditioning EUV Source is charged with specifying, analyzing, designing, and testing fluid and thermal sub-systems and control solutions. Within the department, the Source Infrastructure group is concerned with specifying, designing and qualifying gas and cooling water supply systems.
Your assignment
Flexible hoses are extensively used in the fluid and thermal designs around the EUV sources, because of the high unpredictability of their mechanical behavior (static and dynamic). However, most of the time it is difficult for our mechanics to forecast (in the design phase) the mechanical performance of these flex hoses. Therefore, the scope of this internship will be to provide guidelines on how to better understand and predict the static and dynamic performances of flexible hoses.
For this assignment, some of your tasks will include:
Investigate (eventually involving suppliers) what is already present in literature on this topic;
Create numerical models to simulate the behavior of already designed pieces of hardware;
Compare results with experimental evidence and match the models;
Create ad hoc test cases to validate the numerical simulations;
Examine the influence of boundary conditions, part to part variation, and the impact of the surroundings (e.g. brackets);
Finally, properly document the findings;
Your profile
To be a match for this internship, you:
Are busy with your bachelor's or master's in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering;
Possess good knowledge of basics in mechanics, mechanical dynamics, and theory or vibrations;
Have some experience in static and dynamic calculations (FEM analysis);
Have a proactive approach and a curiosity-driven mind;
Have good communication skills in English (verbal and written).
This is an apprentice / graduation internship for 4-5 days a week (2-3 days on-site) with a duration of 5 to 8 months. The start date is around August / September.
Please note that we can only consider students who are enrolled at a school for the entire duration of the internship.
This position requires access to U.S. controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations. Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such U.S. controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with applicants who are immediately eligible to access U.S. controlled technology.
