WGL - Sr. Director, Regional Leader (Openings for Washington DC, Maryland & Virginia)

Washington Gas is currently searching for 3 Sr Directors to lead our respective Regional Operations in Washington, DC, Maryland & VirginiaAll three roles will be based out of our Springfield, VA location with the ability to travel within the respective territory.   As the Sr. Director, Regional Leader, you will be responsible for overseeing daily operations and driving the strategic direction of field operations in your designated region. This role combines leadership expertise, strategic vision, and gas operations knowledge to ensure high-quality service delivery, a safe and engaged workforce, regulatory compliance, and the achievement of financial objectives. You will represent the region in interactions with regulatory commissions, community leaders, state representatives, and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Strategy: Collaborate with executive leadership to define operational KPIs, set strategic goals, and ensure alignment with the company’s overall vision. Develop and execute strategies for operational and financial performance, including business goals, workforce plans, and budgets. Foster a culture of safety, quality, and customer-focused service.

  • Operational Efficiency: Oversee daily field operations within the designated jurisdictions. Develop and maintain efficient workflows, procedures, and systems to optimize resource allocation, labor utilization, and equipment management. Monitor workforce utilization and productivity, identify operational bottlenecks, and implement corrective actions. Lead continuous improvement efforts to optimize project workflows, reduce waste, and implement industry best practices. Evaluate new tools, equipment, and techniques to improve service quality and efficiency.

  • Financial and Budget Management: Develop, manage, and track operational budgets for the designated jurisdiction. Address variances and review monthly performance metrics to ensure financial targets are met. Work with managers to review resource allocation, track expenses, and ensure efficient service delivery within allocated budgets. Implement cost-control measures without sacrificing service quality or safety standards.

  • Compliance, Safety, and Risk Management: Oversee 24/7 emergency response to safeguard the public and property from gas leaks, outages, and other emergencies. Ensure full compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to field and meter services. Maintain a strong safety culture by developing safety protocols, conducting regular training, and ensuring adherence to safety guidelines.

  • Customer Satisfaction & Stakeholder Management: Oversee service delivery to ensure timely communication, quality service, and resolution of customer issues. Work closely with Customer Service, Sales, and support teams to meet and exceed customer expectations. Foster strong relationships with customers, employees, community officials, business leaders, and regulatory agencies.

  • Team Management and Development: Provide leadership to managers in your region, mentoring them to foster team development and deliver measurable results. Work with HR on recruiting, training, and retaining top talent. Establish clear performance goals, conduct performance evaluations, and provide continuous feedback to team members.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience.

  • 10+ years of leadership experience in the natural gas utility industry.

  • Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.

  • In-depth knowledge of utility operations, including distribution, transmission, and storage, regulatory compliance, and industry best practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.

  • Experience with regulatory commissions and government agencies.

  • Experience in Field Operations, Capital Projects, Construction, or Engineering.

  • Crisis management and emergency response experience.

We offer a competitive salary range of $211,000.00 to $321,500.00 per year, commensurate with experience, education, and skills. In addition, we provide a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
