Software Engineer II, Wayfair Delivery Network

This position is based in Boston, MA. This is a hybrid role that requires Tuesday-Thursday on-site.

The nature of the network is inherently a highly variable ecosystem that requires flexible, reliable, and resilient systems to operate efficiently. We are looking for a passionate software engineer to join the Wayfair Delivery Network (WDN) Orchestration team, the team responsible for the systems that enable our delivery network, orchestrate optimal routes, and publish system tracking events. As part of our team, you will be solving complex problems that have a direct impact on our supply chain operations and end-customers.

What You'll Do:

• Lead high impact projects

• Partner with your business stakeholders, providing them transparency, data, and resources to make informed decisions
• Build web-based services and products that are robust and scalable
• Nurture an innovative engineering culture and support the growth of your teammates
• Solve a wide range of challenging business problems that extend the competitive advantage that separates Wayfair from other online retailers
• Work on a diverse group of systems that covers everything in the web stack
• Work with several large and complex data stores and queries
• Develop algorithms to streamline back end business workflow
• Contribute to architectural and code review discussions impacting our engineering ecosystem

What You'll Need: 

For this role, we need a software engineer that will influence our software architecture, and mentor their peers to drive advancement initiatives within their team to improve systems, practices, and software delivery. You will be working in a results-oriented team that highly values good collaboration and autonomy. The tech stack includes Java, Kafka, Neo4j, Python, and a mix of REST, RDBMs, Aerospike, and K8s among others. 

• Effective communication skills
• Goal-oriented, collaborative, pragmatic, and continuous improvement  mindset
• Experience working as a Software Engineer
• Experience working with relational and non-relational databases
• Knowledge of HTTP and web development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
• Experience working with event-driven architectures, DDD, and TDD
• Abstract thinking skills
• Experience and desire to work in an agile environment
• Interest in being challenged in a fast-paced environment while having fun
• Analytical and creative mindset and passion for solving business problems with technology
• Ability to quickly translate business requirements into working features
• Ability to break down complex features into small usable parts
