Assistant Director Institute for Student Success

Summary and Scope of Position:

The Assistant Director is responsible for working with first-and-second year students who are academically at-risk or on academic probation. The AD coordinates all status changes, including medical leaves of absence, leaves of absences, and transfer/withdraws. This position will help to identify, implement, and/or refer students to the appropriate interventions and resources to advance first-year student success and retention.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Manages Academic Early Alert process for first-and-second year students
• Provide individualized academic support to at-risk first-and-second year students
• Monitor and teach IDS-021: Creating Success: Skills for Academic Success
• Co-coordinates First-Year Advising Institute, summer training program for faculty first-year advisers.
• Oversees Student Adviser program.
  • Recruits, trains, and supervises Student Advisers
• Coordinate status change process by helping students through the Leave of Absence, Medical Leave of Absence, and Withdraw/Transfer process.
• Provides individualized support to students transitioning back to campus from Leaves of Absence and Medical Leaves of Absence.
• Develops and implements academic recovery strategies for at-risk students in order to promote academic and personal success.
• Monitors potential barriers to student success and recommends modifications to processes, policies, and systems.
• Provides ongoing communication, collaboration, and support for advisers, faculty, and coaches on student issues and concerns.
• Develops and executes educational programming opportunities for students.
• Provides support for Academic Standards & Discipline Committee and serves as voting-member.
• Consistently stays on top of trends within academic success and retention to bring forward new ideas and projects.
• Supports Student Engagement in Transfer programs.

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree Required, Counseling, Higher Education, or related field.
• Minimum of three years professional experience in higher education
  • Background in counseling or academic advising strongly preferred
• Experience implementing student retention strategies.
• Ability to analyze and interpret data, and prepare useable information and reports for various constituencies related to student success.
• Familiarity with Colleague, SPSS, and Microsoft Office products preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to work on multiple, complex projects; strong ability to multi-task and continually prioritize changing tasks and deliverables.
