Principal Mechanical Engineer - Optronics (Onsite)
At Collins Aerospace Optronics, we develop and build unique optical systems for space, simulator, airborne and body-worn environments. At Optronics, you will have the opportunity to work with a multi-discipline Engineering team on the design, analysis, development, and testing of complex optical and visual display systems. The candidate will apply knowledge of mechanical fabrication processes, such as design-to-cost, component selection, engineering procurement, and engineering lab processes to the design and development of hardware. The candidate will contribute to bid and proposal efforts. The candidate may coach, review, and delegate work to lower-level professionals. Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures. The candidate may manage moderately sized projects or processes.
What You Will Do:
- Design, analysis and testing of precision optical assembles and visual display systems.
- Design and development of custom tooling and fixtures.
- Lead product prototype development
- Prepare technical documentation including CAD models, drawings, and procedures
- Lead technical research and contribute to continuous process improvement activities
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations OR Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience OR In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required
- U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.

- Knowledge of core concepts of the mechanical engineering, such as thermodynamics, electronics, engineering design, tolerance analysis, and structural analysis
- Strong computer skills and experience with SolidWorks, CREO or NX CAD software
- Strong conceptual, planning, problem-solving, and designing skills
- Communication, teamwork and people skills are important as the candidate will be working closely with engineering, program management, and operations personnel.
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Visual displays, opto-mechanical, or electro-optics experience
- Proficient knowledge using Microsoft Office products
- Proficient with hand tools and light power tools.
- Experience working as part of a team to solve technical problems
