Job Description
The MSL is responsible for educating health care providers, including leading oncology experts, by creating, updating, and sharing the most current educational materials supporting the clinical value of our products. The MSL will be effective at translating data from research projects and disseminating key information through publications, presentations at national or regional meetings, CME events, and other educational activities. The MSL will engage leading disease area experts in speaking engagements where they can educate academic and community-based health care professionals. This is completed through direct education of experts with slides, abstracts and publications relevant to Guardant products and services, participating in the development and creation of educational slides to be deployed in focused events (such as round table discussions, medical seminars, or Continuing Medical Education (CME) lectures), training speakers/educators, and identifying opportunities for collaboration on relevant research projects and other projects of mutual interest.
The MSL will develop a working knowledge of the company’s products and their potential role within the priority disease areas defined in the medical strategy. The MSL will support health care providers regarding the appropriate interpretation of clinical reports generated as part of Guardant products.
The MSL will act as the primary point of contact for disease area experts who wish to conduct investigator sponsored or collaborative research using Guardant products or data. The MSL will provide guidance to potential investigators to ensure that the research is aligned with the company’s medical plan and satisfies internal requirements for consideration of support. The MSL will present the potential research at Guardant Health review meetings and lead communication and coordination between the investigator and the company to support successful conduct of the research, should the project be approved. This includes, but is not limited to, coordinating logistics, tracking and reporting progress, and supporting internal review of scientific outputs when required by written agreements. The MSL may receive logistical support from a Medical Manager for some of these activities.
The MSL will provide medical educational support to internal Guardant Health teams and also provide, as needed, medical support for regulatory, reimbursement, and business development activities to meet corporate goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Identify, develop, and/or maintain strong, collaborative working relationships with leading academic physicians to promote understanding of our novel diagnostic technologies.
- Identify and support disease area experts to present at scientific forums such as specialty society meetings, as well as round table seminars, institutional scientific meetings, and CME events at targeted institutions.
- Critically review and develop educational materials based on emerging data.
- Facilitate meetings and opportunities for scientific and clinical discussions between leading experts and senior staff, including focus groups, PR events, working meetings, and scientific forums.
- Facilitate the review of investigator sponsored research proposals. For approved studies, ensure that requirements are met for successful initiation and execution of the study, monitor progress, and facilitate internal review of results.
- Summarize emerging clinical data and educate health care providers.
- Assist the (Senior) Medical Director or Chief Medical Officer in planning Clinical Advisory Boards or other expert engagement activities.
Qualifications
Education/Experience Required
- Advanced degree in a scientific field of study (Masters or Doctoral degree or equivalent in a relevant health related field).
- Clinical expertise or related experience in relevant specialties is highly desirable. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
