WHO WE ARE: Established locally in 1911, Volunteers of America Northern California & Northern Nevada (VOA NCNN) is one of the region's largest providers of social services. Our professional staff operates more than 40 locally managed and delivered programs. Services include food and shelter, counseling, independent living and parenting skills, substance-abuse treatment and rehabilitation, and job training. Currently, VOA NCNN provides shelter or housing to over 3,500 men, women, and children every night.

PROGRAM AND LOCATION: VOA-NCNN, a Certified Great Place to Work, is recruiting for a Family Home Assistant Manager position for Our Place Shelter. Our Place is a housing focused shelter designed to create a safe and stable environment for women and families who are experiencing homelessness. Our Place connects our guests with services and places them into permanent housing. Located on a 20-acre campus, this emergency shelter operates several homes, a welcome/intake center, dining hall, and a clothing boutique for 138 women, 38 families and 20 senior women and their animal companions. During the winter, Our Place also provides emergency housing for an additional 25 women. This is a full-time position. Full-time employees (working 30 or more hours a week) are eligible for a benefits package that includes paid holidays, vacation, health, dental, vision, life, and short-term disability insurance coverage.

 

Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY:

In addition to the support staff's duties, the Assistant Manager is responsible for leading the team in their daily responsibilities. The Assistant Manager will first lead by example of their exemplary execution of shift responsibilities. The Assistant Manager is responsible for assuring quality service in a safe, non-judgmental manner to all program participants compassionately and professionally as it relates to the specific program objectives. Objectives include supportive interaction with program participants and team members, assessment of participant’s needs, supporting the safety and integrity of all residents, and performing all work duties as required. Work is performed in a cost-effective and service-oriented manner as it relates to established organizational standards.

 

OBJECTIVES/ACTIVITIES:

A. Responsible for performing daily work requirements to achieve established objectives of Our Place Emergency Shelter.

1. Explain Our Place Emergency Shelter and program rules and regulations to participants.2. Ensure intakes are completed correctly for all programs. 3. Make sure information is reported in HMIS correctly. 4. Maintain consistent, detailed, and regular communication with the Shelter Manager regarding all areas of the Our Place Campus, including the Emergency Shelter, Campus Homes, Overflow Areas, Welcome/Intake Center, Clothing Boutique, Dining Hall, Security, Maintenance, Administrative Office, and Case Management, covering participant concerns, program operations, and personnel matters.5. Coordinate bed/sleeping assignments, showers, laundering, and other daily routines.6. De-escalate a crisis before it develops and respond appropriately, providing emergency assistance to clients and co-workers as necessary.7. Maintain daily reports to provide statistical information. 8. Perform housekeeping and other maintenance tasks as needed to meet the health/sanitation requirements of the city and county. 9. Enter information into SharePoint and monitor usage as required.10. Ensure continuous coverage of the Our Place phone line by coordinating schedules and assigning staff to maintain 24/7 availability, including after-hours shifts.11. Complete shift logs, incident reports, and banning notices as appropriate.12. Respond to all client questions and concerns.13. Respond to all employee questions and concerns and provide direction to Support Staff as needed. 14. Perform clerical duties on shift, i.e., answer telephone, record messages, and file as necessary.15. Maintain clear, thorough, routine communication with the Our Place Leadership team and Washoe County staff.16. Assist Managers with Support Staff work assignments, the direction of duties, and scheduling as needed.17. Respond to and address Support Staff scheduling emergencies. Provide emergency shift coverage as needed. 18. Serve as the point person for emergencies. Assess the immediacy of the emergency and notify the Our Place Leadership team and Washoe County staff when appropriate. 19.
