What We're Looking For

This position assists in all aspects of the administration and operation of Baylor Spirit & Traditions. The Assistant Director of Spirit & Traditions is responsible for creating an environment conducive to excellence in athletics, academics, and personal growth through diverse and inclusive experiences at the university and the community. The Assistant Director will work under the general supervision of the Director of Spirit & Traditions, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement. The Assistant Director aids in the teaching/educating of students, recruitment, retention, and academic success of students in the Spirit & Traditions program. 

A bachelors degree and one year of relevant work experience is required. A master's degree and 3 years of relevant work experience is preferred. 

Applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States on a Full-Time basis. 

Essential Functions

  • Assist in coordination of all team practices, fundraisers, performances, competitions, athletic and university appearances.
  • Coordinate team goals that align with the overall goals of the Spirit & Traditions program, athletics department, and university.
  • Work with the Baylor athletic medicine staff designated athletic trainer, and Campus CARE team to support student wellbeing.
  • Maintain office hours in conjunction with practice schedules.
  • Skill instruction/must be able to perform the physical demands of the position, with a background of teaching various areas of cheer and/or dance. 
  • Organize and supervise community outreach/ appearances and ensure all compliance requirements are met.
  • Travel with squads to athletic events including but not limited to football, basketball, volleyball and other athletic/university events. 
  • Support students’ academic responsibilities, guidance, and required study hours when necessary for the success of the student.
  • Actively recruit academically and athletically talented students in accordance with the philosophy of Baylor University. 
  • Act as a brand ambassador aligning the use of Baylor Brand Guidelines with all external-facing marketing efforts.
  • Maintain working knowledge of and adherence to all NCAA, Big 12 Conference, and institution rules and regulations and to communicate immediately any possible infractions of such rules and regulations to the Athletics Compliance staff.
  • Other program duties as requested by the Director of Athletics or area head. 
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor’s mission  
  • Ability to comply with University policies  
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance
