Postdoctoral Scholar - Department of Pharmaceutics

A full-time Postdoctoral Scholar position is available on an annual 12- month appointment in the Wang Lab at the Department of Pharmaceutics at the University of Washington (https://sop.washington.edu/department-of-pharmaceutics/). The Department is internationally renowned for excellence in research and training in the areas of pharmacokinetics, drug metabolism, drug transport, and drug delivery.  Through work that span from molecular, cell- and organ-based studies in humans and animal models, research conducted in the Wang Lab focuses on understanding solute carrier (SLC) and ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters that shuttle drugs, nutrients, neurotransmitters, and hormones across cell membranes.  Current research interests include elucidating the mechanisms and clinical impact of transporters in nutrient and drug disposition in organs critical for early human development.  The highly collegial Department faculty, students, post-doctoral fellows and staff pursue multidisciplinary and translational goals through collaborations within University of Washington and with national and international institutions.

 

The Postdoctoral Scholar will be engaging in the NIH-funded University of Washington Transporter Elucidation Center (UWTEC) to focus on the identification, quantification, characterization, and cellular distribution of membrane transporters in human placenta and other tissues important for early human development and exposure to nutrients, drugs and toxicants.  Potential areas of investigation include:

 

·       Developing cell culture and organoids models to study nutrient and drug transfer across the human placenta

·       Developing stable cell lines expressing placenta transporters for functional characterization

·       Perform screening studies in cell-based systems to identify novel transporter substrates and inhibitors

·       Immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry and confocal microscopy of membrane proteins

·       Transcriptomics, proteomics, and bioinformatic analysis of omics data

·       Mass-spectrometry analysis of small molecules

 

The successful candidate will work closely with the PI and collaborators in a highly collaborative environment. The candidate will plan and perform experiments, write manuscripts, and participate in and present research findings at local and national meetings. Some other tasks such as coordination with co-investigators, mentoring graduate students, and ordering lab supplies will be expected. 

The anticipated start date is January 1st, 2026.

The base salary for this position will be $5,705 per month ($68,460 annually). This is a grant-funded 12-month appointment renewable for up to three years provided funding availability and performance.

Qualifications

Ph.D. and/or M.D. or foreign equivalent required, in biochemistry, molecular biology, pharmacology, toxicology or a closely related field.

Must have a strong background in molecular and biomedical research, with training and experience in cell and tissue culture, molecular analysis, protein expression, bioanalytical skills, bioinformatics, writing manuscripts and grant or fellowship applications.

The candidate must be self-motivated and willing to acquire new skills and enjoy working both independently and in a team setting. Excellent attention to detail, good organization, and communication skills are essential to success.
