Job Description
Hey there! We are on the hunt for someone awesome to join the Engineering Culture & Programs team within the Office of the CTO to help us build a sense of community and belonging across our ecosystem of nearly 5,000 engineers. If you're passionate about engineering culture and know how to make work feel fun, engaging, and energizing, then you might just be the perfect fit! In this role, you’ll be helping to make sure our teams, work, and culture thrive and that we’re building an organization where engineers feel connected and empowered.
Key to this role is finding innovative ways to to bring our diverse, globally distributed team of engineers together as a single community. To achieve this, you will:
- Build and lead communities to foster diversity, connection, and belonging, and build a sustainable culture of improvement by learning from each other.
- Cultivate forums such as advisory groups, technology roundtables, and other mechanisms that actively solicit feedback from engineers, ensuring all voices are heard, valued, and considered in decision-making processes.
- Plan and execute critical projects aimed at improving the health, efficiency, and morale of Block's engineering teams. Examples include learning and development programs, initiatives promoting a sense of belonging, distributed work practices and support programs, and measuring and responding to the state of organizational health.
- Develop and refine engineering cultural programs across Block, including horizontal mentorship programs, onboarding programs, AMAs, internal portals/guidebooks, and more.
- Work to improve communication, collaboration, and alignment throughout the engineering organization, continuously enhancing our ability to meet the needs of our engineering teams.
- Promote a culture of continuous professional development and connect Block with the broader engineering community through conferences, tech talks, blogging, open source initiatives, and more.
Qualifications
You have:
- 12+ years of experience owning and managing large-scale engineering programs and/or operations.
- A technical and/or engineering background, with experience working on technical or engineering teams.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Experience building and managing communities of purpose and practice.
- Deep understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, along with strategies for enhancing them.
- Proven ability to think strategically, solve complex problems, and drive results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Agile business mindset, focused on crafting innovative solutions.
- As a bonus, you have:
- Experience working in a global organization with distributed teams.
- Familiarity with open source software development methodologies.
Additional Information
Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone B: USD $198,000 - USD $297,000
Zone C: USD $198,000 - USD $297,000
Zone D: USD $198,000 - USD $297,000
