UC Health is hiring a PRN Registered Nurse (RN) for the Special Care Nursery for the Day shift at West Chester.

 

A special care nursery, sometimes called a level 2 NICU, can care for babies born at 32 weeks gestational age or greater or babies who are full-term but require close monitoring or intravenous antibiotics after birth.

Special care nurseries can treat babies with some health problems of prematurity, such as jaundice and trouble eating or staying warm.3 Since feeding is one of the tasks which often determines when a baby can be sent home from a special care nursery, you may wish to learn more about feeding premature babies.

•The Registered Nurse (RN) is an individual who holds a current state license to practice nursing. The practice of nursing requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills to provide care to groups and individuals. The RN utilizes knowledge derived from the principles of biological, physical, behavioral, social and nursing sciences to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care. The care is culturally based and age-specific. 

  • Prepares, implements, evaluates, revises and coordinates interdisciplinary plan of care for each assigned patient in a collaborative effort with the other healthcare team members and patient/family within the time frame indicated by unit's standards of practice.  
  • Communicates formulated plan of care, as appropriate, to all levels of associates involved in the patient's care, and demonstrates ability to establish priorities of care based on patient's assessment and needs. 
  • Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment, and involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment, and continuing care of the patient.  
  • Identifies and responds appropriately to different patient needs resulting from behavioral health problems, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious/cultural norms.  
  • Demonstrates critical thinking, accountability, flexibility, and a cooperative attitude in meeting the needs of the unit.  
  • Nursing process is accurately and concisely documented, including evaluation of treatment and in accordance to hospital policy and procedure.  
  • Acts as a resource person and mentor for new personnel, floater, and/or supplemental staff working on the unit.  
  • Assumes responsibility for personal professional development and contributes to the professional development of peers, colleagues, and others.

Education & Experience: 

Education: Associate's degree, minimum required. Bachelor's degree, preferred.

Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.  Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred. 

License and Certification: Current Ohio RN License.
