Job Description

The Precision Medicine Department is committed to advancing drug development and patient care by deepening our understanding of disease biology and creating personalized treatment tools. Within the Precision Medicine Immunology group, our translational research team utilizes cutting-edge technologies to study immunology, identify biomarkers, and validate drug mechanisms across AbbVie's Immunology pipeline. We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist II with a strong background in immunology or immune-oncology and a passion for translational research to join our team. This individual will lead the development of clinical biomarker strategies and assays for inflammatory and autoimmune diseases—including Dermatology, Gastroenterology, Rheumatology, and Fibrosis—spanning late discovery through clinical trials. The successful candidate will collaborate within interdisciplinary teams, independently design and execute experiments, troubleshoot challenges, and interpret results to advance translational and biomarker research. Expertise in advanced molecular techniques, flow cytometry, and evaluation of drug target engagement, receptor occupancy, pharmacodynamics, as well as experience with human tissue and disease/drug biology, is essential for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead biomarker strategies within cross-functional teams to identify gaps and develop fit-for-purpose clinical TE/PD, predictive, and exploratory biomarker assays supporting human dose projection, early efficacy assessment, and patient selection in clinical trials.

  • Collaborate with Data Science and Precision Medicine leads to analyze internal and external omics data, interpret disease heterogeneity/endotypes, and generate patient selection and combination hypotheses for preclinical studies.

  • Develop preclinical, patient-derived disease models and design controlled studies to elucidate drug target mechanisms, progress PD biomarker development, and assess biomarker and combination hypotheses.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in translational research methodologies, including single-cell/spatial omics, proteomics, methylomics, metabolomics, genomics, NGS, MSD, ELISA, Luminex, flow cytometry, ex vivo and organoid culture.

  • Provide training, troubleshoot assays, and introduce innovative technologies within AbbVie.

  • Oversee external CROs and academic collaborations, managing study proposals, budgets, timelines, and data review.

  • Manage and coach translational scientists to ensure successful execution of research plans across multiple projects.

  • Stay current on advances in inflammatory and immune diseases through literature review, conferences, and consultation with KOLs.
