About the role

Description

Stony Brook University is undergoing tremendous growth.  Our adult outpatient psychiatry service is expanding, and we are looking for individuals who welcome the challenge and satisfaction of providing outpatient psychiatric care to a diverse population in collaboration with a motivated multidisciplinary team of clinicians, educators and researchers.

The Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry will serve as an Attending Psychiatrist in the Adult Outpatient Clinics across Stony Brook Medicine locations, based on department needs. 

Responsibilities include direct patient care (at least 90% effort) including diagnostic evaluations, follow-up care, and non-clinical activities (up to 10% effort) which can include research/academic activities.

The academic component including teaching and supervision of medical students, psychiatry residents and fellows.  Working on research-related or scholarly projects is encouraged.  While not a required component for this role, engaging in scholarly activity and research leads to a path for academic promotion.  

Stony Brook Psychiatry has experienced rapid growth in telepsychiatry with immense success.  Providers will experience the gratification of being able to serve a variety of patients throughout the state of New York both in person and via telemedicine and engage patients that may not otherwise have access to psychiatric services. 

Flexible:  Full-time, 40 hours workweek (5 days per week) with the possibility of evening hours.  The position offers a hybrid schedule that includes telehealth appointments, with weekend and holiday hospital on-call responsbilities as needed.

The position will entail telehealth services (psychiatry OPD and integration psychiatry program) along with resident supervision.

*Please note, the telemedicine policy could be subject to change by Stony Brook University and Stony Brook Hospital if needed.  Per Stony Brook policies, providers and patients must be located in New York State.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

MD/DO (or foreign equivalent) with Board Eligibility or Board Certification in Adult Psychiatry.  New York State Licensure, or eligibility.

Preferred Qualifications:

Clinical experience in Adult Psychiatry Outpatient Program. Teaching experience in Psychiatry.  Track record of research.  Experience in Telepsychiatry.  Suboxone Waiver.

Non-Tenure Track position.  FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.  To qualify for a senior faculty appointment, the candidate must meet the criteria established by the School of Medicine (School of Medicine's Criteria for Appointment, Promotion and Tenure).
