Purpose
To coordinate and oversee academic advising and student success functions for undergraduate students in the Steve Hicks School of Social Work and to oversee and perform essential functions for the BSW program including orientations, events, program communication and data collection
Responsibilities:
LEADERSHIP AND SUPERVISION: Supervises the activities of the Steve Hicks School of Social Work’s (SHSSW) undergraduate programs team. Ensures staff provide excellent service in compliance with SHSSW and University policies. Provides leadership and consultation concerning advising best practices and policies. Responsible for staff training. Verifies accuracy of the BSW Programs Team training manual and resources. Supervises dissemination of advising information to the BSW committee, Academic Affairs team, and BSW advising staff. Manages activities of staff in carrying out their assignments for student-related events and programming such as new student orientation, SWEEP activities, honors day, commencement, and more.
SOCIAL WORK EDUCATION ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM: Oversees mentorship for Social Work Education Enhancement Program (SWEEP) including planning and over site of all peer-mentorship one-on-one and group activities and curriculum.
ADMISSIONS AND REGISTRATION: Administers student application for the BSW Practice Sequence and student movement into BSW Field Coursework. Orchestrates registration needs by managing BSW course restrictions, prerequisites, course enrollment management, and petition processes. Develop and code BSW degree audits and degree plans.
ADVISING: Provides academic advising to BSW students including enhanced advising with students in crisis or special circumstances. Oversees advising content on BSW Canvas advising site. Update and maintain BSW Student Handbook. Supports SHSSW minors and certificate programs.
PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: Collaborates with Assistant Dean regarding student registration/progress-towards-degree planning, BSW programs team staff performance, SHSSW policies and student initiatives and campus collaboration as needed. Serves on relevant Steve Hicks School of Social Work Committees and University Committees and other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field and at least five years of experience.
- Experience coordinating or administering a program.
- Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a related field and three years of experience working with college students in an academic counseling capacity or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
- Student advising experience at UT Austin and knowledge of UT academic policies and procedures.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and problem solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently while working collaboratively with student services staff, faculty and the broader university community.
- Professional demeanor.
Salary Range
- $55,000 + depending on qualifications
