We are currently seeking a Testing and Development Engineer to join our HVAC and Thermal Systems team.  Prior refrigeration experience is required, and seniority level will be determined on an individual basis. Our ideal candidate exhibits a can-do attitude and approaches his or her work with vigor and determination. The role:

  • Lead development of Refrigeration and Cooling Systems to meet thermal system and vehicle requirements while optimizing for efficiency, cost, weight, manufacturability, and serviceability.
  • Create test plans, execute tests, and document results and findings.
  • Support thermal system development through the vehicle lifecycle.
  • Work with control systems engineers to optimize the operation of thermal systems for performance, efficiency, and NVH.
  • Work with suppliers to develop tests plans and audit test setups and test reports from suppliers for completion.
  • Work with design engineers to address field issues and improve the functionality of thermal systems.
  • Ensure vehicles conform to all applicable motor vehicle safety standards governing system operation.
  • Support various efforts to improve performance or address issues before and after the launch of the vehicle.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of practical experience with refrigeration cycles and refrigeration components - less experienced candidate will be considered provided the majority of requirements are met.  Seniority level will be determined on an individual basis.
  • Prior experience in development and launch of thermal systems for a complex electro-mechanical system is expected, preferably from automotive or aerospace application.
  • Experience in testing critical components and sub-systems in a laboratory environment.
  • Proven track record of test method development, testing and validation, troubleshooting.
  • Practical knowledge of refrigeration and thermal controls.
  • Experience with data acquisition systems and testing.
  • Experience with various instrumentation used for flow and thermal testing.
  • Experience with test fixture design and part prototyping.
  • Demonstrable motivation and ability to solve novel, difficult design problems with tight timing constraints.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
  • Strong communication skills to engage in deep technical discussions with cross-functional teams.

Education:

  • BS plus 5 years or MS plus 3 years related experience in Engineering discipline.
Salary Range: The compensation range for this position is specific to the locations listed below and is the range Lucid reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions ,including job-related knowledge; skillset; experience, education and training; certifications; and other relevant business and organizational factors. ·       California (Bay Area) - $115,000-$165,000/yr Additional Compensation and Benefits: Lucid offers a wide range of competitive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability insurance, vacation, and 401k.The successful candidate may also be eligible to participate in Lucid’s equity program and/or a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing such programs.  (Cash or equity incentive awards, if any, will depend on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and company performance.)
