The department of Immunology Discovery and Translational Sciences leads and supports our company's pipeline programs encompassing early target discovery and validation, drug discovery, translational medicine, and precision medicine in collaboration with bioinformatics team members.

Our company is recruiting a highly motivated, detail-oriented Associate Principal Scientist with a passion for improving patient lives to support internal discovery efforts.  This individual will work in a matrixed environment with a focus on immune targets and leveraging genetics to stratify patients for drug treatment.  We seek a motivated, versatile, detail-oriented Associate Principal Scientist to join the Immunology Discovery and Translational Team located in our San Diego site. The focus will be on preclinical and IND-enabling in vitro studies. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, matrixed team.

Job responsibilities:

  • Lab-based role focusing on preclinical and IND-enabling studies for novel therapeutics for immunological diseases

  • Design and execute in vitro functional assays to support target validation, drug screening, mechanism of action studies, and biomarker identification

  • Keep detailed and concurrent records of experiments performed in an ELN, analyze and interpret data, and design subsequent experiments to address new questions that are raised.

  • Present data to peers and management to facilitate collaboration and data-driven decision making

  • Work collaboratively with other scientists in the group in a highly matrixed lab environment

Education:

  • Ph.D. or MD in Immunology or related field of discipline with four (4) or more years of relevant experience, preferably with auto-immune diseases

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Experience using multi-color flow cytometry to immunophenotype human cells from blood and tissues

  • Experience using Meso Scale Discovery , Luminex and ELISA to measure analytes in serum, plasma, supernatant or cell lysates

  • Experience developing ex-vivo models to assess immune responses from human whole blood, PBMCs, and various immune cell subsets

  • Experience with cell-based assays including primary cell and reporter cell assays

  • Proficiency in data analysis using Excel, GraphPad Prism, Flow Jo

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Experience with Western Blots for samples generated from cell pellets and tissue

  • Experience with protein quantification techniques from tissue samples

  • Independent, creative life scientist that can identify key questions from the available data and design experiments to address them

  • Versatile, enthusiastic, and detail oriented

  • Experience mentoring junior scientists at the bench to learn new techniques

  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills including presenting data to all levels of the organization

  • Ability to work in fast-paced and matrix environment to meet project goals
