Principal Software Engineering Manager

Microsoft is betting on Artificial Intelligence (AI) as the next growth opportunity for the company. Azure AI is building a platform that makes it easy for both internal Microsoft teams and third party customers to build cutting edge applications using large language models, like those from Azure OpenAI, Mistral, and more. We are revamping our product experience to introduce new capabilities that are vital to building applications that use generative AI while meeting enterprise security, isolation, and compliance requirements.

We are looking to hire a Principal Software Engineering Manager to join our Azure Machine Learning (AzureML) Experiences Team. You will lead a team building services for Azure AI Studio, including the responsible AI service, prompt flow service, and more. We are looking for a motivated, collaborative Principal Software Engineering Manager who has a drive for results.

You will participate in proposing and developing innovative solutions that span across multiple layers of technologies. You will also be responsible for fully understanding requirements and providing solutions that match the needs.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:  

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C#, TypeScript, JavaScript, or Python 
  • OR equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of people management experience. 

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications: 

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C#, TypeScript, JavaScript, or Python 
• OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C#, TypeScript, JavaScript, or Python 
• OR equivalent experience.
• 4+ years people management experience.
• Experience running and working on services at scale.
• Experience working on cloud infrastructure.
• Experience working with distributed systems.
• Understanding of Azure is a plus.
• Experience using Large Language Models (LLMs) or frameworks like LangChain is a plus.
