About the role

The Project Accounting Manager is a key member of the Ware Malcomb administrative team and is responsible for designing, implementing and enforcing policies and procedures for the company’s billing and revenue cycle to maximize cash flow while maintaining and improving internal and external client relationships. In conjunction with other senior accounting staff, the Project Accounting Manager will oversee day-to-day operations on all issues related to the project life cycle from project set up through project close out.  Additionally, the Project Accounting Manager will evaluate project financials and provide analysis to Project Managers, accounting leadership, and other operations management leaders.  This position is highly visible and requires a strong leader with the ability to prioritize, plan, and direct the Project Accounting team.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise Project Accounting team and provide guidance for day to day operations
  • Manage complex project setup and billing issues as necessary
  • Review and approve project budgets
  • Resolve complex billing issues
  • Detecting & alerting accounting leadership of any projects or contracts that fall outside of the firm’s standard contract form or process
  • Participate in strategic planning, lead improvements in the accounting group, identify resource needs and provide growth opportunities to current staff
  • Provide collections support to accounting and project teams
  • Assist with month end close process by reviewing project reporting to ensure project financials are correctly stated
  • Provide project reporting and analysis on key project metrics
  • Assist in the development of Project Accounting policies and procedures
  • Provide oversight of Project Accounting activities to ensure compliance with established guidelines
  • Support the development of annual fee schedules and billing table maintenance
  • Coordinate with senior accounting staff to enhance opportunities for Project Accounting team professional development
  • Provide training to Project Accounting team and project managers as needed
  • Participate in the development and implementation of changes to key processing systems
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Coordinate with Consultants Payable team to resolve workflow, budgeting and payment issues
  • Develop agenda and lead weekly team meetings
  • Manage staff and provide opportunities for development and career growth

Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years’ experience working in a project accounting department within the construction, architecture or other related industry with progressively increasing responsibility
  • Experience leading and managing a team
  • Experience in a senior role within a Project Accounting team in the construction, architecture or other related industry
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple deadlines
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, written and verbal, are essential
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including familiarity with common accounting terminology
  • Exceptional organization skills, strong self-motivator with high attention to detail
  • The ability to independently prioritize and manage multiple tasks while satisfactorily meeting deadlines and desired outcomes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work with individuals at all levels of the organization in a positive, collaborative and solutions-oriented manner
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; experience with Deltek Vantagepoint/Vision software a plus
  • A Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or a related discipline preferred.
