American Chemical Society has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, high-performing leader to join the communications team. This dynamic team manages the organization’s brand and supports its strategic goals by producing a range of video, podcast, social media and written products. The Senior Strategist will be a thought leader who is comfortable with strategic conversations at the executive level and will be responsible for collaborating with senior executives and partners across the organization on the development and execution of strategic initiatives and audience engagement strategies. You will work with executives on the team to deliver, monitor and communicate progress toward goals. We value clear communication, decisiveness and excellent organizational and people skills. Here’s what you’ll be doing:
- You will be the eyes and ears across the organization and be a driving force to get things done
- You will provide thought leadership and strategic thinking while driving the process to refine the strategy, KPIs, budgets and execution plans for the team, as well as how we will measure success and report on progress
- You will act as a trusted advisor to the Communications Director and senior leadership team, handling sensitive information and provide honest and thoughtful guidance and advice on communications, people, and priorities
- You will build and maintain effective relationships with other leadership and across the enterprise to support understanding of strategy and prioritization
- You will oversee multiple strategic initiatives and operations platforms from ideation to implementation
- You will identify pain points and recommend on improvements based on data-driven decision-making
- You will plan, coordinate and lead meetings and staff trainings and workshop
- You will be comfortable accepting feedback and iterating to deliver the desired product.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing or related field
- 10+ years of working as a people or program manager
- Experience leading or influencing high-performing communications or marketing teams
- Experience working in a busy environment, demonstrating the ability to effectively prioritize and meet deadlines
- A self-starter with the ability to work well within a team to achieve organizational goals
- Experience with navigating privacy and compliance conversations with organizational and technical stakeholders
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
- Familiarity and knowledge of the media and comms ecosystems
Location:
This position will be primarily based in the Washington D.C. office. ACS employees work a hybrid work schedule, consisting of working onsite, three days per week. ACS employees are in the office on Tuesday and Wednesday with the third in-office day scheduled in consultation with the manager. While always welcome to work in the office, employees may work the other two days of the week from a location of their choice. New employees are immediately eligible for this hybrid work arrangement. ACS offers relocation assistance, if applicable.
