Description

 

This position is exclusively for the Road SoCal event taking place April 10-11, 2026. This temporary role is 16 weeks, starting January 26, 2026, and ending May 8, 2026. Ragnar Race Directors execute 200-mile relay races that create an experience for people to share with their closest friends and stories they will cherish for their entire lives. Though you aren’t in the van with them, you’ll be a tour guide for Ragnarians by building courses that highlight areas of local interest, have unforgettable views, and capture the heart and soul of your market.

As the Temporary  Road SoCal Race Director, you will come into an event that has been 75% planned and be responsible for finalizing and executing the strategic and tactical event plans. You will be responsible for securing event permits, confirming with on-site vendors and partners, collaborating with internal departments, and managing overall event operation budgets.  Physical labor, heavy lifting, and working weekends and long hours during the race are a requirement. This job will average 40-50-hour workweeks, and most of those will be spent in front of a computer. Travel expectations for this position are a pre-race trip (flexible dates) and race week travel (April 5-12). 


 

Essential functions and responsibilities:       

  • Excellent communication with all parties inside and outside of the company
  • Assist in the development of race budgets and expense management, and adhere to the same
  • Acquire necessary permits – Venues, Cities, Counties, Fire, Health, DOT, etc.
  • Provide vendor management - contracts, deliveries, equipment, etc.
  • Manage charity relationships and execute charity commitments
  • Coordinate all logistics for the race
  • Create effective layouts (parking, shuttle, venue, evacuation, etc.)
  • Pre-race travel, course/venue setup, and Race Day execution
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe and logistically sound race route
  • Supervise post-race wrap-up - both internal and external, compile all feedback and needed improvements, and implement the necessary changes the following year
  • Customer Service - Answer questions forwarded from customer service or that come directly to you
  • Drive large vehicles up to 26’ U-Haul trucks
  • Sustainability - Help execute the race sustainability plan, including waste reduction, energy use, and procurement practices
  • Vendor management – Scoping, contracts, deliveries, equipment, etc.
  • Other tasks as assigned

Travel Requirement:  One pre-race trip to drive the course, meet with any necessary vendors/permitters, and check for construction. Travel for race week expectation is Sunday-Sunday (April 5-12). 

Physical Demands:  While performing duties of the job, the incumbent is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Minimum 2-5 years relevant experience
  • Leadership experience required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively as a member of a team and multiple cross-functional project teams
  • Well-organized with the ability to multitask, time management, and close attention to detail
  • Detail-oriented self-starter with the ability to prioritize projects, work within short time frames, and meet deadlines
  • Conflict resolution experience preferred
  • Heavy lifting (50 lbs.)
  • Working weekends and long hours during races
  • Any experience with budget management, operations, event management, and/or logistics is a big bonus
  • Having run and/or worked a Ragnar is a plus

Pay range: $25-$29 per hour
