AT&T Undersea Cable Operations and Maintenance team is responsible for managing multiple undersea cable systems that land at AT&T’s 12 undersea cable stations distributed from Guam to the US Virgin Islands. This includes local operations of the cable stations, contract and regulatory support for the various cables/sites, and facilitating connectivity.

As a member of the AT&T Undersea Cable Operations and Maintenance Team, candidates will be responsible for managing vendor relationships needed for support of AT&T Undersea Cable Operations, including negotiating and managing contracts and ensuring appropriate purchase orders and bill payments.

The Principal Technical Consulting Eng. will lead advisory services to the sales force, customers, and potential clients, resolving complex technical, scientific, or engineering issues to drive the successful sales, installation, and utilization of organizational products and services.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Technical Expertise and Problem Solving:

    • Provide advanced technical guidance and resolve complex issues for engineering, scientific, or technical challenges

  • Client and Sales Support:

    • Act as a key advisor to clients and sales teams, addressing technical challenges and assisting with presentations, demonstrations, and proposals

  • Solution Design and Implementation:

    • Lead the design, configuration, and innovative development of solutions tailored to client needs, and oversee project execution to ensure timely and within-budget delivery

  • Training and Documentation:

    • Create and deliver training materials, operating manuals, and mentorship to junior staff while maintaining comprehensive project documentation

  • Compliance and Continuous Improvement:

    • Ensure solutions meet industry standards and regulations, and continuously seek opportunities for process improvements and best practices implementation

  • Vendor/contract management:

    • Negotiating work orders and proposals with a wide variety of vendors to support multiple projects and functions within the organization

    • Generating purchase orders/contracts and ensuring bill payment through AT&T accounts payable systems

    • Identifying and engaging appropriate stakeholders (Legal, Supply Change, etc.) for review and approval of contracts and agreements

    • Ensuring invoices, payments and bill outs are accurate and timely

    • Coordinating with internal departments to ensure billing for cable operating expenses, rights of way/easements and other support costs are paid and accounted in overall cable operations costs

    • Maintaining cost allocation models (Excel), Frequent interaction with finance in support of capital and expense billing

  • Project management:

    • Provide support and direction to vendors and other internal organizations to ensure completion of various projects for cable repair, spares management, equipment management, and support operations for land-route/terrestrial segments of undersea cables

  • Analysis/Problem Solving:

    • Uses knowledge of procedures, contracts, purchase order and billing systems, and team relationships in resolving issues

  • Communication:

    • Actively builds and promotes good working relationships across functional, cultural, and geographic boundaries

Required Experience:

  • 8-10 years’ experience

  • Technical Career Pathway (TCP) role

Desired Education:

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Science, Electrical Engineering, or Math; Developer nanodegree; or equivalent experience preferred

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of AT&T Purchase Order and bill payment systems

  • Knowledge of AT&T Global Supply Chain processes and systems

  • Inventory Management
