Job Summary:

The Senior Database Administrator (DBA) supports the production and testing of Oracle databases on behalf of multiple customers. This includes performance tuning of production databases, designing new database structures, data migration, initial database configuration and operational support to live and test systems. The Senior DBA is responsible for ensuring tasks are on track and provide expertise (technical or otherwise) where required.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provision of Oracle database expertise including system administration, maintenance, technical troubleshooting, root cause analysis, incident resolution and where required, escalation
  • Advise and support the application support team for review of SQL, stored procedures, database structures and processes
  • Design, planning and testing of disaster recovery
  • Supervision of system backups
  • Performance monitoring, troubleshooting and tuning
  • Manage the security of database systems and working with security auditors where required
  • Capacity management of production and development databases
  • Conduct Database administrator related projects (e.g. Perform data migration between different versions of Oracle.)
  • Produce detailed estimates and technical specifications for proposals and budgeting purposes
  • Update and maintaining documentation
  • Recommend new equipment to meet business requirements
  • Liaise with internal technical resolver and test teams to investigate and resolve issues and incidents with environments and software deployments
  • Liaise with customer development and technical teams to identify, investigate and resolve issues with services and software deployments
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships
  • Support and train other team members as and when required
  • Communicate with the customer using both technical and non-technical language (where appropriate)
  • Provide 3rd line support, including out-of-hours support in critical situations and participation in on-call support rotas as required
  • Attend other Cubic sites and data centers as required
  • Comply with Cubic’s values and adherence to all company policy and procedures.  Comply with the code of conduct, quality, security and occupational health, safety and environmental policies and procedures.
  • In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed, the job holder is required to perform other duties assigned by their manager from time-to-time, as may be reasonably required of them.

Minimum Job Requirements:
 

Skills knowledge and experience:

Essential:

  • Oracle Database 11g Administrator Certified Associate or higher
  • Competent user of MS, specifically Excel, Outlook and Word
  • Experience of working with sensitive/confidential information
  • Experience of working with remote teams
  • Practical Oracle experience including:
    • Oracle RAC
    • Oracle DataGuard
    • Oracle 11g or higher
    • Partitioned databases
    • Oracle Virtual Private Databases and row level security
    • Databases in excess of 2TB
    • Performance tuning and troubleshooting
    • RMAN for backup and recovery

Desirable:

  • Formal training in Database Administration
  • Postgres database administration
  • Experience of Unix shell scripting
  • Experience of working as part of a 24/7 support team
  • Knowledge of the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard (DSS) regulations
  • Experience of DB2

Education and qualifications

Essential:

  • BA/BSc in IT or other related discipline or equivalent experience

Desirable:

  • ITIL foundation or higher
