Role Summary
The Manager, Pilot Crew Scheduling is responsible for executing on the strategy for the Pilot crew schedulers in the day-to-day operation to ensure compliance in Federal Aviation Association (FAA), collective bargaining agreement (CBA), company policy and processes for all pilot assignments and applicable contracts. As a people leader, Manager of Pilot Crew Scheduling leads and establishes priorities to achieve objectives and enabling a team in assigning legal pilot flight crews to support the Alaska Airlines operational schedule.
Key Duties
- Direct leadership of operational supervisors and crew schedulers.
- Establish priorities for the daily operation of the pilot schedulers ensuring compliance with all scheduling functions and regulations.
- Responsible for maintaining the COPS relationship and hearing Step 2 Grievances.
- Develop crew scheduler and supervisor shift bids and vacation bids.
- Report out weekly OPL numbers and trends in Pilot Crew Scheduling.
- Monitor work performance and establish goals for operational supervisors.
- Review ALPA escalation requests when manager is requested.
- Parter with Director, Pilot Crew Scheduling on planning & forecasting including but not limited to annual budgeting, staffing, training, performance partnerships, etc.
- Participate in meetings as needed/requested.
- Drives continuous improvements of people, systems, and processes.
- Develops and manages methods and procedures to ensure compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and conducts audits to provide documentation of consistency.
- Ensures tools and equipment are available and working for employees to perform job functions effectively and removes other obstacles facing work groups (i.e., follow-up with Information Technology Services (ITS) and facilities as needed).
- Manages the activities of all crew schedulers in scheduling, training, attendance, discipline, contract administration, and performance.
- Develops and maintains a cooperative working relationship cross divisionally and with union groups including Airline Pilots Association (ALPA), Clerical Office and Passenger Service Employees (COPS).
- Provides leadership in proactively identifying and resolving problems.
- Oversees functions related to non-schedule related flight operations including but not limited to Charter Flights, Training Flights, Functional Check Flights (FCF), Ferry and Repositioning flights.
- Provides analysis and recommendations to the Director of Crew Scheduling that are critical to the scheduling operation.
- Manage Lead Crew Schedulers to ensure compliance with FAR 117 in association with other Network Operations Center (NOC) bridge members and Pilot Crews.
- Creates an atmosphere of inclusiveness, responsiveness, and recognition for crew schedulers.
- Represents Alaska Airlines Pilot Crew Scheduling department at various AAG meetings related to crew.
Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills
Required
- 5 years of aviation, airline operations, or equivalent experience.
- 2 years of experience leading and mentoring teams.
- Bachelor’s degree or an additional two years of experience in lieu of the degree.
- Demonstrated ability to manage small projects and support larger projects as a Subject Matter Expert (SME).
- Demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships across all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to develop new ideas to improve safety, compliance, efficiency, and cost.
- Demonstrated ability to identify problems and collaboratively develop alternatives for resolution.
- Detail-oriented, with the ability to keep track of many moving parts and spot conflicts early.
- Excellent communication skills (e.g., verbal, written, and listening) and comfortable with public speaking
- Strong working knowledge of airline/inflight operations with outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with all levels of Alaska, outside contractors, and regulatory authorities.
