About the role

Overview

By building and leading a strong team, provides continuous improvement of utilities, buildings, facility equipment, and grounds.  Optimizes the environment of care within budget

Responsibilities

  • Manage day to day maintenance operations by using sound organizational, prioritization, and technical skills
  • Maintains daily shop operations by working directly with mechanics throughout the organization to resolve equipment issues, make best value decisions, and improve processes
  • Directs, coordinates, and supervises all mechanics on team
  • Effective communication with Customer, team, and manager
  • Continuous development of staff, through hands on examples, and by serving as a knowledge base
  • Continuous improvement of team efficiency and effectiveness
  • Provision of safe and reliable buildings, facility equipment, utilities, and grounds
  • Responsible for making sure health/safety issues are completed immediately or As Soon as Possible
  • Provides and effectively presents good information for training, problem solving, and decision making
  • Helps to manage inter-team relations between Engineering Services’ teams, between Engineering and Construction, and between Engineering Services and other DCH departments
  • Assume duties of Director/Manager during his/her absence
  • Manages front line operations of area of accountability related to meeting/exceeding departmental goals, 5 keys of excellence, DCH Mission and Vision.
  • Interviews, selects, hire and retains employees
  • Executes progressive discipline up to and including termination
  •

    • Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.

    Qualifications

    • Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English. 
    • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent is required. 
    • Must possess a valid Alabama Driver’s License
    • Must demonstrate facility competence through a cognitive CBT test and specific tasks observation
    • Must have good organizational, technical, and communications skills

    PLUS:

    • Two year technical degree directly applicable to primary assignment;
    • AND ten years’ experience in primary assignment
    • OR ten years’ experience relevant to primary assignment area or with Engineering Services at a DCH Facility

    • Daily face-to-face discussions and working with individuals or teams to complete projects

    • Includes exposure to human disease and infection
    • Includes exposure and dealing with physical aggression of violent individuals (Code Strong)

    PHYSICAL FACTORS

    • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Heavy Work

    Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects

    • Able to climb ladders and scaffolding
    • Possess good manual dexterity
    • Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time
    • Requires wearing common personal protective equipment
    • Possible daily exposure hazardous chemicals
    • Vision and hearing to be corrected to within a normal range
    • Includes exposure to extremely high decibel levels. (Loud noise)
    • Often exposed to hot and cold temperatures due to outdoor exposure and weather conditions
    • Possible exposure to cuts, burns, bites or stings
    • Must be able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

    STRUCTURAL

    • Must be able to work 40 hours a week, occasional weekend and overtime when required
