About the role

Company Description

Reverb is the largest online marketplace dedicated to buying and selling new, used, and vintage musical instruments. Since launching in 2013, Reverb has grown into a vibrant community of buyers and sellers all over the world. By focusing on inspiring content, price transparency, musician-focused eCommerce tools, a music-savvy customer service team, and more, Reverb has crafted an online destination where the global music community can connect over the perfect piece of music gear.

We love working at Reverb because we’re making the world more musical—through our marketplace and through Reverb Gives, which provides musical instruments to youth music education programs. We were named a “Best Place to Work” by Built in Chicago and a “Top Workplace'' by the Chicago Tribune.

About Engineering at Reverb

We build primarily in Ruby/Rails and React, but we value identifying the right tools for the job. We believe in fast feedback cycles, pragmatic code, continuous deployment, and validating our ideas in production as soon as we can.

Our teams are highly collaborative and empowered to build a better experience for our customers. We rely on our ability to work as a team and incorporate different perspectives in order to ship meaningful and impactful software to our users.

Job Description

Do you wish that you could have a gear expert's advice when picking out your next instrument? Us too! That's why we’re looking for a full stack engineer to join the Catalog Engineering team.

This team is working to make fundamental changes to how categories and product data are represented in our marketplace. We are reshaping and expanding our existing product taxonomy, as well as inventing new ways to organize and present products. The work this team does will be at the heart of the future of shopping for musical instruments online, allowing Reverb to build groundbreaking features connecting buyers to instruments they're interested in. You’ll join this team as it begins to set the new foundation for the next generation of our product catalog, and will have the chance to quickly make your mark on our team and our business.

Projects you might work on in your first 12 months:

  • Building tools to improve our ability to expand our structured data of product categories
  • Designing and developing a new taxonomy that allows us to flexibly group products in new ways for buyers to discover them
  • Streamline our process of deploying product catalog data updates
  • Devising ways to support rapidly scaling landing pages that help people find the gear they're looking for
  • Reconstructing existing functionality that has been in place since the very beginning of Reverb to make future improvement easier

This is a full-time position reporting to the Engineering Manager of our Catalog team. For candidates located in NYC, San Jose, San Francisco, or Seattle, please visit this link for compensation information. For candidates in all other eligible locations, the base salary range will be $101,000 - $131,000 USD per year.
