If you’re enthusiastic about innovative approaches to problem-solving, we would love to speak with you about joining our team!

What are we looking for?

Are you prepared to steer a team at the forefront of distributed systems, big data, and database technology? We are seeking a Senior Manager of Software Engineering to head our EventDB team. Born from our acquisition of Scalyr, EventDB is not just a regular database; it is engineered to efficiently scale to exabytes, serving as a critical component in our security and data infrastructure. In this role, you will guide a team of skilled and innovative engineers, shaping our future products in data handling and security.

What will you be doing?

  • You will nurture and develop a high-caliber software team, ensuring they are motivated, productive, and aligned with our company's vision. Your role involves coaching, mentoring, and holding the team accountable for delivering software assets.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including product managers, senior leadership, and field teams, to deeply understand and incorporate business requirements into our software solutions. You'll ensure that the team remains focused on the broader business context, avoiding the trap of losing sight of the 'forest for the trees.'
  • Drive the strategic direction and operational execution of the EventDB team. You'll oversee the development lifecycle, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality software products.
  • Exhibit a keen sense of organizational politics and social dynamics. You'll be expected to anticipate the needs of senior leadership, including proactively addressing issues and opportunities before they arise.
  • While hands-on coding isn't a primary focus, a solid understanding of software engineering practices and database technologies is crucial. You'll be guiding a team that's pushing the boundaries of what's possible in data scalability.
  • Oversee the financial aspects of software development, particularly focusing on cost-effectiveness within our cloud/SaaS environment. You will be responsible for developing strategies to optimize cloud resource utilization, managing budgets, and ensuring cost-efficient deployment of our services. Your expertise will be vital in identifying areas for cost reduction, negotiating with vendors, and implementing best practices in cloud cost management to drive both financial efficiency and high performance in our software solutions.

What skills and experiences should you bring?

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in software engineering with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role, preferably within a cloud/SaaS environment.
  • Profound understanding of database technologies, cloud computing (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, etc.), and SaaS models. Experience in managing software projects.
  • Proven ability to lead, develop, and motivate a diverse team of software engineers. Strong conflict resolution, negotiation, and team-building skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities. Proficient in engaging with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully leading and managing remote or distributed teams. This includes proficiency in virtual collaboration tools, fostering a strong remote work culture, and effectively handling the unique challenges and dynamics of remote team management.
  • Capability to think strategically and understand the broader impact of decisions on the organizational dynamics and objectives.
  • Comfort with fast-paced, changing environments and ability to adapt to evolving business and technology needs.

Why us?

  • You will be joining a cutting-edge company where you will tackle extraordinary challenges and work with the very best in the industry.
  • Medical, Vision, Dental, 401(k), Commuter, Health and Dependent FSA
