Tax Accountant

Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work with other members of VP’s tax team to ensure accurate and timely filing of all fuel returns, claims, and Sales & Use tax returns.
• Ensure that the ERP system/ Avalara has accurate rates and efficiently supports the reporting above.
• Ensure timely payment of fuel, sales, and use taxes.
• Keep current on taxation rules, policies, and filing procedures.
• Handle correspondence with taxing authorities. (requests/notices/audits/etc)
• Support/educate internal and external customers on tax related issues.
• Prepare Resale & Exemption Certificates; Gasoline Blendstock Certificates; Multi-jurisdictional Sales Certificates for Vendors.
• Maintain and review NetSuite tax exemptions for customers.
• Proactively maintain appropriate bonds, licenses and any other governmental requirements.
• Develop and monitor processes/controls to ensure accurate and efficient tax compliance.
• Reconcile balance sheet accounts related to fuel/sales taxes
• Drive process improvement and efficiencies.
• Coordinate with other offices as needed.
• Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.

• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. 
• Proficient knowledge of Excel, problem solving and analytical skills required. 

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.
• NetSuite experience strongly preferred. 
• 3+ years of related experience is preferred. 
• Close attention to detail and accuracy.
• High degree of computer literacy.
• Experience overseeing an organization’s tax documentation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Primarily office environment but may be exposed to shop elements such as noise, dust, odors, fumes and oils.
