The Boeing Company is currently seeking an Mid-level Equipment & Tooling Engineer to support our BTI Advanced Production & Automation (APA) team located in Tukwila, WA.
APA is a research and development organization focused on developing and production-hardening new automated manufacturing technologies for the fabrication and assembly of aircraft parts. This team begins with ideas and through hands on experiments, tests, and demonstrations develops these concepts into implementable equipment and processing solutions that support multiple programs across Boeing’s platforms. In our state-of-the-art composites fabrication and robotic automation labs, our engineers and technical analysts lead and execute a variety of composites materials & fabrication development projects to transform ideas into reality. We work closely with the BTI Materials & Structures, BCA Product Development, and BCA Airplane Program teams to identify, develop and transition technology needs to Boeing products.
As an Equipment & Tooling Engineer in APA, you will work independently and collaborate with experienced peers to create requirements for the design, installation, and analysis of new manufacturing equipment and tooling to support new production system process development. You will work with our MP&P teams to develop robotics and automated equipment solutions via hands-on demonstrations in our labs as well as off-site collaboration with Boeing manufacturing sites and vendors. The chosen candidate will be motivated, self-driven and will have excellent written and verbal communication skills. We are a collaborative team, and you will work with cross functional teammates including MP&P Engineers, IT and Software engineers, Design & Structural Engineers, Quality Engineers & Inspectors, Test Engineers & Operators, Assembly mechanics, and support teams; a collaborative attitude and the willingness to work together are vital to our team’s success. A successful candidate in this role will have passion, creativity, and a strong desire for process improvement and efficiency. They will also have a strong desire to be out on the production/laboratory floor, interacting with operators, maintainers, safety, and directly supporting the research, test and production system. Position Responsibilities Include
- Perform stakeholder discovery, develop production asset requirements, highly complex production asset concepts and design solutions
- Validate analysis of technical data, influence product design and make automation or technical recommendations to support production system integration for aerospace products
- Lead the creation and modification of equipment and tooling definition
- Makes rework and repair dispositions of asset issues and non-conformances
- Execute project plans, provides input to Make/Buy decisions and partners with Procurement to meet schedule, cost and quality targets
- Ensure compliance with safety, producibility, maintainability, reliability, ergonomic factors and regulatory requirements
- Lead gated reviews and develop plans for production readiness, preventative maintenance and spares
- Validate contractual performance milestones
- Develop and implement workarounds and maintain configuration of asset hardware, software and documentation
- Conduct studies and make recommendations for asset investments
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
- 3+ years of experience with system design & integration, operational procedures, hazard identification and requirements, to prevent or control mishap risk throughout the life of the product
- Experience with machine integration or equipment engineering
- Working knowledge of Catia V5 or equivalent CAD/CAM software
