Job Description
Kenworth Truck Company and PACCAR are seeking a technical leader to join our uptime engineering team. This individual will lead a team analyzing dash lamp data across 10,000+ Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks to determine and drive corrective action resolution with the goal of decreasing vehicle downtime. This leadership position is an excellent opportunity to create and grow yourself and a team with direct reports focused on maximizing uptime through dash lamp analytics.
Position Summary
The Uptime Engineering Sr. Product Engineer works with Kenworth, Peterbilt, PACCAR Global Engine, and PACCAR Embedded teams to lead dash lamp and uptime improvement activities. This role provides direct oversight of the day-to-day operations of the team while coordinating with groups across multiple PACCAR locations. The team’s primary goal is to reduce the number of issues that lead to downtime. Activities involve defining issues, applying known solutions to top customers, organizing campaigns, and driving solution execution. This position collaborates with an international, cross-functional team from manufacturing, service, product development, information technology, suppliers, and product validation.
Job Functions & Responsibilities
- All aspects of dash lamp reduction and vehicle uptime improvements will be managed by bringing solutions to our customers. Activities include supervising, personnel development, team building, proportioning workload, and tracking progress.
- This position will analyze large datasets from our vehicles to understand emerging issues and develop plans to reduce dash time. This position will also work closely with the Kenworth and Peterbilt warranty and field services teams to gather input and lead containment (such as field campaigns) and permanent corrective efforts to minimize unscheduled downtime.
- This position is responsible for tracking all aspects of active projects, prioritizing projects based on customer impact, providing periodic status updates to management, managing projects through tollgates, and ensuring use of Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) tools. The team is expected to release some design changes under guidance from responsible running business and development groups.
- This position will work closely with development engineering groups as an advisor to prevent repeat issues.
- Up to 15% travel (domestic & international).
Qualification & Skills
- B.S. in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, mechatronics engineering, chemical engineering, or computer science required; Master’s degree and/or P.E. license preferred.
- Must demonstrate an ability to perform in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment, manage multiple simultaneous projects, and respond dynamically to shifting priorities.
- Overall product knowledge is required, along with the ability to provide group leadership and management of the team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Commercial vehicle background including J1939, service, and vehicle controls preferred.
- 3-5 years of automotive electrical, electronic, and software design experience, preferably within PACCAR.
- PACCAR plant and service experience are desirable. Preference will be given to candidates with software design and release, multiplexed communications, diagnostics, powertrain, and/or other embedded system
