About the Role

 

As a Principal Architect -  Application & Integration, you will be at the forefront of designing and implementing applications that drive our business forward. Your expertise will be pivotal in shaping our software development and API strategy and ensuring seamless integration across our platforms.
This role is part of the Technology Architecture team in BHP.

 

Key responsibilities:

 

Expertise: Provide technical expertise in cloud solution architecture, technology strategy and technical design decisions, mainly for the AWS and Azure cloud platforms , integration, APIs, cybersecurity and SaaS Solutions;

Leadership: Lead and develop architecture guardrails (eg. reference architectures, models, design patterns and standards) relating to software development and API/Integration;

Collaboration: Work closely with the software development and digital teams to provide architecture advice and guide teams to reuse design patterns and cloud platforms;

Assurance: Support ongoing technical reviews through the architecture governance process and provide technical direction for escalated technical issues;

Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior architects and engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement for BHP standards, design patterns, reference architecture and BHP architecture methodology.

About You

Technical Competencies

 

• 10+ years in enterprise and solution architecture, design, and development
• Proven tech thought leader with consulting experience in complex environments
• Passionate innovator who thrives in collaborative, problem-solving cultures
• Strong customer focus with ability to simplify complex concepts
• Skilled in designing layered application/architecture stacks
• Advanced in Archimate and EA tools (e.g., iServer, Archi)
• Expertise in software development, system design, solution evaluation, strategy, and reference architecture
• Deep knowledge of cloud (AWS, Azure) across IaaS, PaaS, SaaS; supports cloud strategy and adoption
• Experienced in API and integration architecture using cloud-native solutions
• Application architecture for mining/resources (e.g., MES, ERP), including cloud-native design
• Collaborates with cybersecurity to shape cloud security strategy
• Familiar with data analytics and BI platforms (Cloudera, Snowflake, Python, R)

 

Qualifications:

 

• Bachelor or higher degrees from STEM schools
• TOGAF or similar certification
• Cloud related certification (eg. AWS, Azure)
