About the role

General Description and Classification Standards: This position is responsible for executive-level oversight of all activities related to marketing and brand strategy, communications, corporate, community and industry relations, international affairs, and air service development. This position provides advice to the Atlanta Department of Aviation (DOA) General Manager and guidance to the Executive Management Team to ensure alignment with DOA’s vision, mission, strategic plan, and performance management program. This position leads the execution of global connectivity strategies, diplomatic relations, and route development efforts. It also directs public engagement, media relations, and crisis communications, safeguarding the airport’s reputation through consistent and transparent messaging. Coordination with the Mayor’s Office ensures alignment of major communications and public messaging with broader city objectives.
  Supervision Received: Direction received is general and focused on strategic objectives, typically collaborative in nature. This is a policy-making position and is considered executive management.

  • Provides executive leadership over all communications, marketing and brand strategy, corporate, community and industry relations, and passenger, cargo and freight air service development functions, ensuring alignment with the airport’s strategic vision and mission. • Directs and oversees media engagement, media production, and social media strategies to ensure consistent, accurate, and timely dissemination of information to the public and stakeholders. • Manages the development and execution of comprehensive marketing and brand strategies that promote the airport’s identity, enhance passenger experience, and support business goals. • Leads internal communications to promote organizational cohesion and reinforce key messages across departments and employee groups. • Oversees corporate and community relations initiatives to strengthen partnerships, foster goodwill, and engage with key civic, nonprofit, and business stakeholders. • Guides international affairs and diplomatic engagement to enhance Atlanta’s global connectivity, while representing the airport in high-level international environments. • Leads passenger, cargo and freight air service development efforts by collaborating with airline partners, identifying route expansion opportunities, and supporting industry engagement strategies. • Oversees coordination with aviation stakeholders to ensure proactive alignment on industry trends, regulatory issues, and business development opportunities. • Manages the planning and execution of high-impact special events, ensuring alignment with airport branding and public engagement strategies. • Coordinates closely with the Mayor’s Office and city leadership on public messaging and community-facing initiatives to ensure strategic alignment and transparency. • Implements standards and ensures compliance with regulations, policies, and procedures set forth by the FAA, TSA, City of Atlanta, and other regulatory bodies. • Prepares strategic plans and reviews detailed business plans.  • Prepares and presents divisional annual operating and capital budgets; prepares budget forecasts, analyzes operating expenses, investigates variances, and monitors expenditures to ensure budget compliance. • Provides professional staff on analytical or project management tasks supporting airport operations and assists the Airport General Manager in guiding directors and managers. • Monitors performance across all functional areas, implementing metrics and continuous improvement practices to track impact, adjust strategy, and report outcomes. • May perform other duties as assigned.
