Job Description

The Data Scientist for Strategic Insights within the Division of University Strategy supports the ongoing transformation into a future-focused data-informed institution. This role directly supports the Chief Data Scientist to leverage our rapidly maturing enterprise data infrastructure, business processes and analytics capabilities into clear and digestible insights for executive decision makers. The Data Scientist oversees the development and deployment of advanced analytics tools (including AI/ML) and assists with development of data architecture supporting those tools. Strategic Insights collaborates with partners across the university and beyond, the Data Scientist demonstrates strong performance in working effectively with multidisciplinary teams and navigating unfamiliar datasets on projects outside of their prior experience. Serves as Campus Security Authority (CSA).

Position located in Stephenville, Texas with office hours of Monday to Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM or as work requirements indicate.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Develops statistical models and AI/ML algorithms, including design, evaluation, deployment, and monitoring, to help leaders solve critical problems and make smart decisions

• Works with senior administrators, faculty, staff, and external partners to turn data into insights and solutions via well-designed predictive models, visualizations, and presentations

• Collaborates with professionals at all parts of the data pipeline

• Collaborates with stakeholders across the university and beyond

• Promotes data and AI literacy across campus by assisting with staff trainings and mentoring graduate assistants

• Explores new partnerships and data sources that could open new opportunities

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's Degree in a highly quantitative field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Eight years of related experience

• Knowledge of advance statistical analysis, interactive data visualization, programming or similar software applications. Knowledge of use of data mining.

• Ability to research and develop statistical learning models for data analysis.

• Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

• Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

• Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment system or water treatment system.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Salary Range:

The target base annual salary range is $91,127 to $92,000 and may be negotiable based on funding availability and candidate experience/skillset in relation to the minimum requirements of this position .
