BASIC FUNCTION:
The candidate will conduct research in the field of biopharmaceutical applications of nanotechnology, specifically in the area of bioconjugate chemistry involving tethering of monoclonal
antibodies (mAbs) and peptides to polymers with detailed physicochemical and biological characterizations for use in the design of polymeric nanoparticles for the delivery of bioactive agents.
SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITY:
The candidate will report to Professor Emmanuel O. Akala.
Weekly meetings to keep the Professor abreast of the developments on the project. Challenges in meeting the laboratory deadlines presented to NIH should be discussed at weekly meetings so that the problems
can be nipped in the bud.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
Drug-loaded nanoparticles fabrication with detailed physicochemical and
biological characterization.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Monthly reports and semi-annual reports.
- Publications and grantsmanship
CORE COMPETENCIES:
- Bioconjugate chemistry (Polymer chemistry, organic chemistry,
- pharmaceutical sciences, etc.).
- Biological and physicochemical characterization techniques (NMR, FTIR,
- HPLC (small molecule and protein analysis), LC/MS, Flow cytometry, scanning electron microscopy,
- transmission electron microscopy, zeta potential determination and MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometry
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Ph.D. in Polymer chemistry or Pharmaceutics or Molecular Biology or
Biomedical Engineering
