Starting Wage Range: $27.05/hr. - $34.95/hr.
Job Summary:
Contribute to the Tribe’s mission of preserving and perpetuating the cultural heritage of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde by facilitating, creating, and providing cultural education to tribal members and other parties on the Tribe’s History and Culture.
Essential Functions:
- Promotes cultural education in the Grand Ronde community.
- Implements cultural education courses for the benefit of the Tribe and community including the drafting and administering of contracts.
- Develops and maintains contacts with appropriate teachers, artisans and class facilitators.
- Teaches cultural education classes where appropriate.
- Assists in the implementation of an inter-departmental collaborative Cultural Education plan for the Tribe.
- Assists in maintaining a well-advertised cultural education course calendar to provide appropriate notice of learning opportunities for tribal members and the community.
- Assists Cultural Resources staff in creating and conveying interpretive material and educational programming for staff, docents, volunteers, tribal members and others on Tribal History and Culture.
- Assists with requests to provide burial and ceremonial practices to Grand Ronde Tribal members and families that are made to the Grand Ronde Tribal Government.
- Assists with filling Cultural requests for public speaking on Tribal history and culture as well as provides cultural sharing and demonstrations.
- Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education, Experience, and Licenses:
- Requires a high school diploma or GED. Associates degree preferred.
- Experience working with youth preferred.
- OR equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Must maintain a valid Oregon driver’s license or obtain one upon hire, qualify for the Tribe’s vehicle insurance, and provide proof of personal vehicle insurance.
Qualifications, Registrations, and Certifications:
- Demonstrated knowledge of Grand Ronde Tribal Culture and History is required.
- Must have strong interpersonal skills including the ability to clearly communicate in written and verbal forms, work with angry or disgruntled clients in a cooperative and effective manner, and assist in conflict resolution using appropriate techniques.
- Requires good computer skills including Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Must have the ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced and stressful environment.
- Must have the ability to work under direction where objectives are established.
- Must be able to work a flexible work schedule for filling approved cultural requests.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to Native American culture required.
Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- Continually requires the ability to express or receive detailed information or important instructions through oral communication.
- Continually requires working with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm. Requires repetitive movement of wrists, hands and/or fingers. Often requires walking or moving about to accomplish tasks.
- Requires standing and/or sitting for sustained periods of time, raising objects from a lower to a higher position and/or moving objects horizontally.
- Occasionally requires lifting of up to 40 pounds.
- Due to the nature of the interactions with other employees and the public we serve, employees may be required to provide documentation of, or receive, certain health vaccinations.
- This position is frequently subject to inside environmental conditions which provide protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes, and is occasionally subject to outside environmental conditions.
- May be called upon to serve as a Disaster Reservist during Emergencies, or when the Tribal Emergency Operations Center is opened.
- Local travel is occasionally required. Travel outside of the state is infrequently required.
