You Should Apply If

You have previous experience providing physical education support in a school environment to Special Education students who require specialized instruction in physical, coordinative and manipulative skills. You are an excellent communicator who enjoys collaborating with teachers, administration, and other school staff. You are highly organized, comfortable working independently and hold a valid driver’s license and have dependable transportation, as travel between school locations will be required.

What You'll Do

• Provide innovative, creative, and adapted physical education instruction for special education students
• Utilize appropriate curriculum framework guidelines, standards, policies and procedures to meet the needs of assigned students
• Assess physical and perceptual motor needs of students in order to develop appropriate adaptive physical education programs in physical and motor fitness, fundamental motor skills and patterns
• Develop appropriate instructional goals and objectives for each student  based upon assessment and observational data 
• Write assessment reports and present data and findings to IEP teams
• Use Welligent and/or SEIS to develop appropriate IEPs which include but is not limited to present levels, goals, objectives, service recommendations, accommodations
• Participate with the IEP team in the planning of an individualized education program for each student 
• Attend IEP meetings for assigned students
• Develop and implement instructional plans for appropriate motor programs and activities for assigned students
• Regularly communicate specific, evaluative feedback to students, parents and general education teachers regarding student progress in meeting set goals and objectives 
• Track and report progress towards student progress, achievement and IEP goal attainment
• Work closely with school personnel to complement and supplement academic concepts and consult with classroom teachers regarding physical education 
• Analyze, demonstrate, and explain basic skills, techniques, and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement to students 
• Provide adequate supervision of assigned students
• Maintain professional competence through participation in professional growth activities as needed to stay current in pedagogy and methodologies in Adaptive Physical Education 
• Attend and participate in regional Special Education meetings and site faculty meetings as needed
• Maintain required attendance data and other related service records, including service tracking in Welligent and/or SEIS
• Ability to work successfully with students, teachers, administrators, and parents and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
• Develop an effective instructional schedule to meet the required APE Instructional minutes of each student’s IEP and travel to multiple different school sites to deliver the APE program to students
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by manager

Qualifications

You'll Be Qualified If You Have

• Possession of an earned Baccalaureate of higher degree from an accredited college or university
• Required: Valid California Adapted Physical Education credential OR California Physical Education credential with the added Adapted Physical Education Authorization
• Minimum of 1 year of experience working with students in a school setting
• Experience working with students from unders
